The Opportunity:

Make your mark while you grow your career! Thermal Major Projects is seeking a Project Engineer to support execution of greenfield thermal facilities and major facility expansions. This individual will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary project team, providing leadership through all project phases, including funding, regulatory applications, engineering studies, design development, execution planning, procurement, construction, commissioning and startup. The successful candidate will be accountable for achieving safety, environmental, scope, cost and schedule objectives while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Leveraging a strong understanding of thermal heavy oil economics, along with proven technical, leadership and work ethic strengths, this role offers participation in large-scale projects and strong career growth opportunities.

  • Shift schedule: 5 x 2, 8-hour shifts

Key Accountabilities:
  • Encourage a strong safety culture while supporting regulatory compliance and funding application processes
  • Develop execution plans, capital budgets, cost estimates, schedules, risk registers and resource plans for project delivery and stage gate approvals
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to finalize project scoping documents and project charters prior to project kickoff
  • Ensure designs are reviewed with stakeholders and incorporating feedback to support high-quality, fit-for-purpose outcomes
  • Select and oversee engineering service providers, equipment vendors, fabricators and construction contractors on a day-to-day basis
  • Manage projects in accordance with Canadian Natural's Project Management Methodology, while monitoring progress and addressing issues to ensuring successful delivery and closeout

What You Bring to the Role:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and maintaining APEGA P.Eng. registration in good standing
  • Demonstrate 10+ years of relevant oil and gas experience, including project management, process design and thermal (SAGD and/or CSS) facility experience
  • Execute projects across the full lifecycle with strong familiarity in large-scale project delivery
  • Apply front-end project development, economic evaluation and field experience, with experience managing medium to large projects is considered an asset
  • Communicate effectively while demonstrating strong organizational, teamwork and problem-solving skills, along with a strong work ethic
