Full Job Description
SUMMARY OF ROLE:

Ready to work on some of the most high-profile and technically complex projects on the East Coast, especially here in New York City? As a Project Engineer at JBB, you'll join a team delivering impactful healthcare projects while also gaining exposure to a diverse portfolio across multiple sectors. Candidates with additional experience in electrical engineering and mission-critical/data center environments are strongly encouraged to apply. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Leads full design on tenant fit-out projects; key designer on base building and infrastructure upgrades; assembles complete contract documents including specifications.
  • Establishes design criteria from project proposals and assembles Basis of Design documents.
  • Leads design for all ancillary trade systems including UPS, generators, fuel oil, secondary water, and water reclamation systems.
  • Reviews shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor change orders; performs site visits and punch lists with limited supervision.
  • Assists in establishing project schedules that ensure effective use of resources and on-time delivery.
  • Holds team members accountable to deadlines and delivery expectations, regardless of their position.
  • Attends project meetings independently; provides technical expertise and communicates decisions clearly.
  • Assists in preparing proposals and managing add services; coordinates design and owner-directed changes.
  • Manages cross-discipline coordination to keep documents aligned and expectations met across the full project team.
  • Anticipates problems, addresses them proactively, and proposes solutions that prevent recurrence.
  • Reviews and supports junior team members' work for quality and completeness.
  • Actively mentors engineers, including leading JB&B University courses.
  • Communicates project goals clearly to align all team members with client expectations.
  • Contributes to department standards and firm knowledge, including The Pine.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Proficiency in discipline-specific design calculations and tools (Revit, AutoCAD).
  • Strong understanding of trade-specific scope, codes, and coordination requirements.
  • Strong understanding of documentation requirements for each project phase (SD, DD, CD, specifications).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage others and hold a team accountable to deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; comfortable leading meetings and representing the team.
  • Emerging project management skills, including proposal preparation and add services management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering required.
  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience, or proven demonstration of project Engineer or Senior Engineer-level competencies.
  • Candidates with additional experience in electrical engineering and mission-critical/data center environments are strongly encouraged to apply.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has supervisory responsibilities. The Project Engineer directly manages, reviews, and mentors junior engineering staff on assigned projects.
