JOB SUMMARY

The Project Coordinator, Climate Change provides the City with research, analytical, and project coordination support to advance the City of Ottawa's climate change and resiliency objectives.

This role specifically focuses on renewable energy strategies, energy management programs, and existing building energy performance. This role contributes to initiatives including the City's corporate solar rooftop initiative, utility demand management programs, the building retrofit strategy, and other climate mitigation initiatives as required. Responsibilities include data analysis, stakeholder engagement, business case development, project coordination, and performance monitoring. This role directly supports the City's priority of building a green and resilient city.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A 4-year degree in Environmental Science (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, and Physical Geography), Environmental Studies, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering, Building Science, climate change policy, urban and regional planning, or another related field with coursework in climate change mitigation or adaptation, or energy efficiency, conservation or generation.

Three years of related experience in research, data analysis, program development, delivery and analysis, project management, project evaluation and technical support.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Best practices in climate change mitigation or adaptation, and/or energy efficiency, conservation or generation.
  • General knowledge of relevant corporate and departmental policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of the energy and emissions landscape in Ottawa and Ontario, including energy generation and distribution infrastructure and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) sources. Knowledge of the provincial regulatory framework and agencies is an asset
  • Knowledge of the climate hazards, risks and vulnerabilities in Ottawa and Ontario
  • Legislation, policies, regulations, guidelines and operational procedures relevant to the operational area
  • Principles and techniques of project planning and management
  • Communications and stakeholder engagement techniques and processes
  • Research, data analysis, statistical analysis and report writing techniques and processes
  • Program and project evaluation and performance measurement processes
  • Business process flow modeling
  • Business improvement methodologies
  • Techniques for cost-benefit analysis, performance evaluation and benchmarking
  • Research, surveying, data collection and analyses methodologies
  • MS Office
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
