Job Description:

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to support Heavy Industrial projects for our Baton Rouge, LA team. The Project Controls Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting the planning, execution, and completion of projects during the project management lifecycle. The Project Controls group works directly with project teams providing the project controls expertise and assistance needed to flawlessly execute projects bringing them in on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of integrity and compliance with company and industry standards.

This role provides support for the management and tracking of resource assignments, project execution requirements, reporting, and compliance with company standards, and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Development and management of cost and schedule controls to provide project and company management with accurate forecasting information.
  • Facilitates the development of the work breakdown structure (WBS)
  • Implement and maintain an Earned Value Management System on projects.
  • Analyze and forecast cost and schedule performance indicators
  • Support and coordinate project management through analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Coordinate and support development of project resource schedules to conform to project requirements
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure that project monitoring and reporting reflects the latest status of projects
  • Coordinate and compile input from team members and various project reporting to establish appropriate project plans, checkpoints and processes to meet project milestones, financial metrics, and requirements
  • Assist management in the execution of internal OPMS program to ensure first time quality in project management

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates degree in relevant field or equivalent job experience required, Bachelor's degree a plus
  • 8+ years of Project Controls experience, preferably in Engineering
  • Advanced computer skills for Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proficient with Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project
  • Proficient in Cost and Schedule Management principles.
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management Systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people individually and in groups, including external partners and internal team members
  • Ability to work independently and contribute administrative support to teams
  • Strong organizational skills with proven experience prioritizing work and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint
  • PMI certification or knowledge of Project Management


This position requires the ability to pass a post-offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations and is also subject to random testing as a condition of continued employment.

Location Note:

This is an on-site position. Compensation is based on market data and internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate's location.

Salary Range:

$140,000- $180,000 annually (based on experience, qualifications, and location)
