Role Summary

We are seeking a Project Controls Engineer to support equipment construction, installation, debugging, and startup at domestic and international sites. This role works closely with internal teams, contractors, and external partners to help deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality installation and conversion projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support equipment installation, setup, debugging, and startup through turnover to operations.
  • Learn and understand process and equipment functions, including I/O requirements, control logic, fail-safe states, and recovery sequences.
  • Coordinate with system integrators and machine builders to deliver integrated equipment systems on time and within project goals.
  • Assist with development and modification of industrial control systems for manufacturing equipment.
  • Partner with Technology Development, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations teams to improve equipment designs and reduce cost.


Travel & Schedule
  • Travel may range from a few days to several weeks during project startup, and may be full-time during deployment phases.
  • Travel may include locations in North Carolina and international sites.
  • Standard schedule is 40+ hours Monday through Friday, with adjusted hours or weekends as needed based on project phase.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Controls Engineering or a related field.
  • 2-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using PLC and PC based systems, Beckhoff PLC / Motion Control, B&R PLC Control, Automated equipment systems experience.
  • Experience working on a manufacturing floor or construction site with a strong focus on safety.
  • Knowledge of power systems up to 480VAC.
  • Ability to work hands-on with tools, instruments, and measurement/alignment devices.
  • Ability to interpret engineering requirements and support equipment design and schematics.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Windows, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with PLC and PC-based systems, including Beckhoff or B&R controls.
  • Experience with automated equipment systems, SCADA/HMI, PID control, and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Strong communication and project coordination skills.
  • Optical fiber manufacturing experience is a plus.


This position does not support immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $110,000 - $145,230 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
