Salary Grade: 14

The base salary will be $67,680 - $96,590 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Please note, this is a 30-month temporary full-time contract opportunity. This contract includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Residence Area Manager, the Programming Coordinator is a key member of the Residence Life Management Team in addressing the transitional needs of our incoming students. In consultation with other members of the Residence Life & Education and Residence Conduct & Safety teams, this role develops proactive strategies to address high-risk situations (e.g. underage drinking, mental health issues), through program design and delivery of educational awareness campaigns, as well as dry-alternative social programs for students in residence. The Programming Coordinator draws upon Student Development Theory to facilitate the implementation of a Residential Curriculum, which assists in creating thriving communities, and supports the best student experience for first-years, upper-years, graduate students and families living in the residences and University-owned accommodations.

Maintaining a strong liaison with campus partners, the Coordinator establishes strategic partnerships with colleagues on campus to deliver joint programs and initiatives that address divisional and University priorities. The Programming Coordinator also coaches the nine Residents' Councils in handling joint social, wellness and awareness programs on campus, and provides oversight and guidance to the risk management, financial processes and project management aspects of the residents' councils.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Undergraduate Degree
  • Undergraduate Degree in Health promotion or Education preferred
  • Masters Degree in Education, Student Services or Leadership preferred

Experience:
  • 2 years' experience in Residence Life or Student Affairs with demonstrated leadership experience in a residence setting
  • 2 years previous experience in large-scale event planning and coordination
  • Work experience demonstrating organizational, customer service and administrative competence
  • Experience providing leadership and support to student leaders, including performance assessment
  • Past experience working with elected bodies (student government) is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and ability to manage social media platforms, communication and engagement strategies for student populations is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills with emphasis on proposal development and presentation to internal contacts, up to senior management
  • Influential interpersonal skills that build strong, collegial relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated staff management skills with an ability to develop a strong department team coupled with an ability to work effectively as a member of the Residence Life Management Team
  • Ability to provide leadership and supervision of staff in day-to-day operations
  • Astuteness in balancing competing group interests and political platforms
  • Results oriented with an ability to handle many tasks and maintain a high level of individual and team performance
  • Proven ability to take initiative and champion a project from conception to implementation and evaluation
  • Ability to plan and manage events of all sizes - including logistics, budgeting, trouble-shooting
