The Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) seeks to fill the position of Program Supervisor, PE/Health. This full-time permanent position is based in Olympia, Washington. This position may be eligible for partial to near full-time telework. Telework is a combination of in-building and off-site days. You may have the option to work from home on a flexible telework schedule. While we're happy to offer a balance of in-office collaboration and telework flexibility, this is not a fully remote position. The role does require you to be in the office two days per month.
Position Overview

The primary function of the Program Supervisor, PE/Health, is to provide K-12 leadership, guidance, technical assistance, and professional resource development for the state's education system for Physical Education (PE), Health, and Comprehensive Sexual Health Education (CSHE). This position is responsible for program management of PE, Health, and CSHE which are graduation requirements in K-12 school curriculum with state- adopted learning standards.
Key Responsibilities

This role provides statewide leadership for Physical Education, Health, and Comprehensive Sexual Health Education (CSHE) by aligning systems, policies, and practices to expand equitable access to high-quality learning. It oversees major initiatives from policy development through implementation, ensuring compliance, minimizing risk, and advancing agency goals, while leading the revision and rollout of learning standards and building statewide capacity through professional learning, instructional resources, and guidance on inclusive, standards-aligned, and culturally responsive materials. The role strengthens instructional practice through research-based strategies, cross-disciplinary integration, and targeted support for diverse student populations, while also fostering strong partnerships across state agencies, educational organizations, and stakeholders to inform policy and implementation. Serving as a key liaison, it contributes to legislative analysis and reporting, maintains clear and consistent communication, and uses data and assessment systems to drive continuous improvement and improve outcomes for all students.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in PE, Health or education, educational administration, or related area

A minimum of three (3) years of K-12 experience in PE or Health as a teacher and/or within the educational

• A combination of education and related professional work experience may be considered year for year.

Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and commitment to provide public sector
leadership around the agency's anti-racist objectives.
Demonstrated good judgment and empathy in order to communicate and collaborate across cultures
effectively.
Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking skills to address and resolve complex, unprecedented issues
Experience writing and developing curriculum, instructional resources, or professional development modules related to PE and Health, assessment, graduation requirements or relative educational topics.

Travel expected for site visits, attendance at trainings and /or conferences, meetings or other approved events.
The selected candidate must maintain residency in the state of Washington to be eligible for this position.
Knowledge of:
Current research, procedures and best practices in K-12 PE and Health content area education, including curriculum, program evaluation, assessment for classroom and large-scale applications,
Sound management practices, professional staff development, program planning, individual and group decision making strategies.
Relevant state government, laws, and legislative process
Desired Qualifications:

Master's degree or higher in area related to (PE/Health/education, educational administration or related area)
Experience teaching PE in a formal elementary or secondary education system
Experience with relevant state government, laws, and legislative processes
Experience working in a diverse school setting
Broad practical experience in leadership, personnel management, collaborative problem solving and conflict management.
Ability to provide long and short-term strategic planning and program development goals Experience with data analysis and reporting.
Compensation
The annual compensation for the position is $86,612 - $101,898 per year and depends upon experience, educational background and qualifications. Geographic differentials may be applied based on work location of successful candidate. Washington State offers a generous benefit package including health, dental and life insurance, retirement and an optional deferred compensation program.
