Department Summary

The Dallas Promise Scholars Program is a newly launched program within the Center for Socioeconomic Mobility through Education (CSME). CSME partners with internal and external stakeholders to accelerate upward mobility for UNT Dallas students and the local community through initiatives that advance well-being, wisdom, and wealth. The Dallas Promise Scholars Program operates with six full-time staff members - a Director and five Student Success Coaches. Success coaches serve transfer students from Dallas College and first-time in college students from Dallas County Promise high schools. This team works closely in coordination with other UNT Dallas staff in supporting student success.

Position Overview

The Director of Dallas Promise Scholars is a results-driven leader responsible for designing and overseeing a comprehensive student success initiative that supports eligible students, including both first-time-in-college and transfer students. This role supervises a team of five full-time Student Success Coaches and ensures the implementation of proactive, student-centered coaching practices that promote persistence, engagement, and degree completion.

The Director leads with a love for student success and a passion for collaboration, using data to drive strategic improvements and shaping an environment where all students can thrive and reach their goals.

This position reports to the Executive Director of the Center for Socioeconomic Mobility through Education.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and five years of closely related professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Builds trust and rapport with students, staff, faculty, and external partners.
  • Uses evidence to guide planning, assess outcomes, and inform improvements.
  • Designs and improves scalable structures that support high-impact student experiences.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or related discipline.
  • Experience designing or managing coaching or mentoring programs in a higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with college completion initiatives.
  • Proficiency with student information systems and case management tools.


Job Duties

  • Lead the development and refinement of the Dallas Promise Scholars support model.
  • Build scalable coaching systems that promote academic success and student belonging.
  • Coordinate with campus partners across academic and student affairs to align support services and use of technology platforms (e.g., Navigate).
  • Supervise and support five full-time Student Success Coaches (with each coach supporting ~100 students) through regular training, feedback, and goal setting.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous learning to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality coaching across all student tiers.
  • Apply creative and student-responsive approaches to improve engagement and remove barriers to success.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, coaching effectiveness, and program impact using key performance indicators.
  • Act as institutional liaison to regional collaborators in a learning community meeting 2-3 times annually to review benchmarking data, share best practices, and potentially visit/learn from other national institutions.
