Program Manager, Clinical Quality and Safety - Division of Cancer Medicine
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. Within the Division of Cancer Medicine, the Program Manager, Clinical Quality & Safety serves as a key contributor to the Quality and Safety Program, supporting divisional leadership in advancing patient safety, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and clinical effectiveness initiatives. The Program Manager, Clinical Quality & Safety collaborates extensively with Quality Officers, clinical leaders, analysts, and multidisciplinary stakeholders to improve care processes and outcomes across a large and complex oncology environment.
The Program Manager, Clinical Quality & Safety plays a vital role in managing quality data, monitoring safety events, leading strategic projects, and facilitating collaboration across numerous departments within UT MD Anderson. This Program Manager, Clinical Quality & Safety position also supervises a Program Coordinator supporting the Quality and Safety Program and serves as a liaison between division leadership and departmental quality teams.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in healthcare program management, clinical quality, patient safety, performance improvement, and data analytics. Successful candidates will demonstrate experience managing complex, cross-functional initiatives, building strong relationships across diverse stakeholder groups, and utilizing data to drive operational and quality outcomes. Experience with Power BI, Tableau, EPIC, dashboard development, regulatory reporting, quality metrics, and healthcare performance measurement is highly desirable. Strong communication, project management, analytical, and leadership skills are essential.
Salary Range (40-hour work week): Minimum $37.98/hour - Midpoint $47.60/hour - Maximum $57.21/hour
The typical work schedule is standard business hours.

Responsibilities
Data Management & Reporting
• Coordinate divisional quality improvement programs and develop Quality & Safety metrics for outcomes and productivity.
• Establish quality assurance processes that ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
• Oversee divisional data collection activities and monitor reporting compliance.
• Measure, trend, analyze, and report Quality & Safety metrics to identify high-risk and recurrent events.
• Monitor the institutional incident reporting system for events occurring across the Division of Cancer Medicine.
• Create, maintain, and enhance dashboards supporting Quality & Safety performance monitoring.
• Coordinate benchmarking activities and communicate findings and recommendations to divisional leadership.
• Support departments with data extraction, reporting, metric analysis, and performance tracking.
• Collaborate with analysts and quality leaders to identify, measure, and evaluate key performance indicators.
• Align divisional policies with regulatory, accreditation, and national quality standards.
Quality & Safety Improvement
• Assist the Deputy Division Head for Clinical Quality and Effectiveness with divisional quality initiatives.
• Assist the Divisional Quality Officer with implementation of cross-departmental process improvements.
• Support Department Quality Officers with quality improvement projects and operational initiatives.
• Facilitate participation in regulatory reporting systems across departments and service lines.
• Assist in the development and monitoring of quality and compliance measures.
• Evaluate patient care processes and quality outcomes to identify improvement opportunities.
• Participate in Safety and Quality Daily Briefings and institutional quality improvement activities.
• Coordinate study sessions supporting fellows preparing for quality certification examinations.
• Identify opportunities to centralize processes and implement sustainable solutions.
• Promote the meaningful use of data to support clinical practice and quality improvement efforts.
Project Management
• Lead multidisciplinary projects using established project management methodologies and best practices.
• Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and success measures with stakeholders.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects while ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
• Monitor department-specific goals, milestones, and outcomes within established timeframes.
• Collaborate with leadership to develop, implement, and maintain policies and standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate education and training activities supporting quality and safety initiatives.
• Partner with divisional leadership to identify priorities and communicate strategic initiatives.
• Conduct cross-sectional analyses across multiple quality, safety, and operational projects.
• Support initiatives related to emergency room utilization, readmissions, and inpatient care models.
• Drive continuous process improvement through data-informed decision-making and project execution.
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
• Serve as a liaison between divisional leadership and Department Quality Officers.
• Build and maintain effective relationships across departments, services, and stakeholder groups.
• Collaborate closely with Dr. Huey and quality leadership to advance strategic priorities.
• Supervise, train, delegate work to, and evaluate the performance of the Program Coordinator.
• Plan, organize, and facilitate recurring quality and safety meetings.
• Serve as a resource for clinical quality, patient safety, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Build strategic partnerships with quality administrators, analysts, and operational teams.
• Assist leadership in prioritizing initiatives that enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.
• Communicate project updates, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.
• Pursue ongoing professional development and support organizational learning initiatives.
Clinical Quality & Safety Operations
• Develop expertise in oncology care delivery, quality risks, and patient safety priorities.
• Support quality initiatives involving stem cell transplant, solid tumors, and hematologic malignancies.
• Monitor initiatives related to chemotherapy safety, opioid safety, and blood product administration.
• Analyze trends involving oncology patients presenting to the emergency department or hospital.
• Evaluate inpatient and outpatient care processes to improve quality and operational outcomes.
• Identify workflow improvement opportunities and recommend evidence-based solutions.
• Participate in the development, revision, and implementation of operational procedures.
• Support institutional quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Promote collaboration among clinical, quality, and operational teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
• Required: Bachelor's Degree
• Preferred: Master's Degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
• Required: Five years related experience to include three years program management or three years experience required with Master's degree.
• May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
