  • San Francisco, CA Positions: A 10% salary uplift is provided on top of base salary for positions that are worked in San Jose, CA, and San Francisco, CA, which is subject to change depending on market conditions.


Project Overview:

Bechtel has been appointed by The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) to provide Construction Management Services for Phase II (BSVII) of The BART Silicon Valley Program. The program further extends the BART system from the Berryessa Station in north San Jose, through downtown San Jose, and continuing to Santa Clara University. This landmark project is a six mile, four-station extension, linking the Phase I terminus at the Berryessa/North San Jose BART station to the Santa Clara Station in the City of Santa Clara. BSVII is planned to include a 54-foot single-bore tunnel, three underground stations, one at-grade station and a maintenance facility.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will manage direct reports and lead interdisciplinary teams to establish construction methods and support activities. You will oversee the construction process, review plans and specifications for costs and constructability, manage corporate processes and procedures, and lead proposal preparation. Your recommendations for studies, lessons learned, project assessments, and new methods will optimize completion of project construction activities. #LI-JL1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads the constructability effort for the BSVII Program on behalf of the CMS (Construction Management Services) team.
  • Directly performs constructability reviews and impacts on all aspects (vertical and horizontal) of the BSVII program.
  • Determines construction impacts on road and transportation networks. Provides input to VTA"s CTMPs (Construction Traffic Management Plans)
  • Provides input on required construction staging areas, temporary construction facilities, forecasted working hours and shift patterns, advises VTA on construction sequencing and staging plans.
  • Assesses cumulative impact of multiple construction packages operating contemporaneously.
  • Reviews construction processes, site plans, and engineering layouts.
  • Reviews daily inspection reports and other project documentation.
  • Attends and may lead construction meetings with the client and contractors.
  • Serves as an Assistant RE in other functions when necessary.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) in engineering-related field (e.g. Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, etc.) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience,
  • Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California is required.
  • PMP or CCM is preferred.
  • Experience as a Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, or Project Manager on a State Highway System project of at least 50M dollar projects or an Assistant Resident Engineer on 100M dollar projects.
  • A minimum of 12 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
  • At least 5 years working as a Resident Engineer on Caltrans Highway improvement projects of similar size and complexity.


Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g. Caltrans).
  • Prior experience with construction/operations/traffic on a State Highway.
  • A demonstrated ability to read and completely understand contract documents.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
