Full Job Description
Propulsion Controls Engineering has a current opening for a Production Manager, with a minimum 15 years management experience within the marine and/or shipyard industry; supporting our San Diego, CA location.
Position Summary
A Production Manager is overall responsible for all Production Trade personnel to include Trade Superintendents and Trade Supervision ensuring adherence to company policies, Ensuring Employee Development and providing input to better enhance product quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides technical leadership and provides Deck plate training to the production Employee's.
  • Coordinates the production work of all Trade Employee's to perform the project in a safe, timely, and quality manner.
  • Provides input and oversight for the development and management of project schedule, ensuring accuracy of project planning, tracking, and milestone adherence.
  • Collaborates closely with Project Management to ensure project resourcing.
  • Ensures Trade team adheres to production schedules.
  • Performs periodic tours of projects with Ship Superintendent and/or Trade Supervision.
  • Ensures proper allocation of company resources (i.e., personnel, materials, support services, etc.)
  • Ensures the development of the Plan of the day and weekend work list to be submitted to the PMO office.
  • Communicates obstacles to progress and resource challenges to Project Management.
  • Participates in planning activities including preplanning, kick off meetings, and scheduling.
  • Collaborates with Quality Assurance regarding concerns with product quality, inspections, and testing.
  • Provides product requirements and technical expertise to assist the Project Team as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring the project is performed up to PCE safety standards and policies by coordination with the Safety, Environmental and Security department, ensuring discrepancies are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Ensures the required Production labor Billet is updated and filled to meet company resource projections.
  • Develop and implement tanning schedules to enhance workforce skills and efficiencies.
  • Conduct periodic Audits and assessments to ensure training effectiveness.
  • Ensure all production trade employee performance evaluations are standardized and completed in a timely manner.
  • Initiate and issue employee corrective actions.
  • Other duties as assigned, requested or needed.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • High School and/or advanced technical schooling preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of Management experience. Military / marine or ship repair knowledge a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Prior experience in a Senior Trade Management role within a shipyard of Naval repair facility
  • Requires problem-solving, conflict resolution, and team-building competencies.
  • Possess an extensive knowledge of ship's systems and subsystems.
  • Ability to read and interpret Standard Drawings, Navy Standard Items, and Navy Quality Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO/9000 principles.
  • Possess excellent communication skills; as both a listener and when providing direction.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
