About the RoleWe are seeking a swing shift production engineer to join our team and drive the scalable, high-quality assembly of our distributed battery systems. As Base rapidly expands deployment of home battery systems, this role will own critical production processes, ensuring efficient manufacturing that meets growing demand while upholding rigorous standards for safety, reliability, and performance in energy storage products.
You will serve as a hands-on engineer on the production floor, collaborating closely with Hardware Design, Supply Chain, Quality, and Deployment teams to optimize assembly lines, resolve bottlenecks, and implement improvements that directly accelerate our ability to deliver resilient power solutions to thousands of homes.
What You'll Do- Own core production processes for Base battery system assembly
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks through root cause analysis, process optimization, and implementation of lean manufacturing principles to improve yield, cycle time, and throughput.
- Develop, validate, and document standardized work instructions, fixtures, and tooling to enable consistent, high-quality output at scale.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, incorporating data-driven insights from production metrics, failure analysis, and quality feedback.
- Collaborate with design engineering to ensure manufacturability of new product introductions and support smooth transitions from prototype to volume production.
- Drive safety and compliance in production environments, with particular emphasis on high-voltage systems and energy storage hazards.
- Leverage AI tools to automate and process manufacturing data, enhancing performance and decision-making.
What You'll Bring- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 3+ years of hands-on manufacturing or process engineering experience in high-volume production environments, ideally with batteries, power electronics, or complex electromechanical assemblies.
- Demonstrated expertise in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies, PFMEA, and statistical process control.
- Proficiency with production tools and systems (e.g., PLC programming, MES, ERP, jig/fixture design, automation integration, Ignition Automation).
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data tools (e.g., SQL, Python, JMP, KNIME, or similar) to drive decisions.
- Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, cross-functional settings with a bias for action and ownership of results.
About this TeamMakers of the machines that power tomorrow. The Manufacturing Engineering team owns the interface between a proof of concept and a scalable, profitable product. Our team focuses on how a product can be built, defining the process technology and equipment solutions along the way. We are the feedback loop with the product design team to ensure designs are manufacturable both at cost and scale. The Manufacturing Engineering team owns every aspect of bringing the physical mechanisms of manufacturing a product into the factory.
Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.
