Full Job Description
The Production Control Operations Manager will be part of the Production Control Team at the new SEMI Manufacturing factory in Reno, Nevada. This person and will be responsible for designing and developing inventory movement from receiving docks to point of use, for improving productivity and efficiency of operations, and for managing Material Handling and conveyance staff. The primary objective of the SEMI Production Control and Material Handling team is to implement an efficient receiving, warehouse, material handling, and part presentation to support the overall vehicle manufacturing operation, while optimizing space, improving labor productivity, and creating a more ergonomic work environment for Tesla's associates. This position will report to the SEMI Senior Production Control Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement solutions for dramatically improving material flows through the factory using Lean Principles. The design includes material arrival at docks through staging for delivery to line-side locations. The focus will be on developing innovative new solutions for manufacturing that leverage automated systems
  • Ability to foster and develop a strong team of material handling personnel & leaders through selective recruitment, thorough and consistent on-boarding process, training, and coaching, and identification and addressing of competency gaps within team. Management of team includes proactively planning for labor needs considering production ramp up, communicating job expectations, performing employee performance and objectives reviews, and managing team in alignment of company policies and procedures
  • Drive improvements within material flow by planning layout and space requirements, reducing line impact, analyzing and reviewing product flow, and evaluating and proposing new equipment options
  • Maintain a safe work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures. It also requiring coaching and motivating team to proactively address potential safety issues and concerns
  • Support interaction with suppliers to obtain feedback, and ensure collaboration between Tesla, other operations, suppliers, and customers result in the development and deployment of supply chain solutions that improve quality, performance and service levels
  • Support advanced trouble-shooting and improvement of existing warehouse management, inventory control, and material flow systems


Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, supply chain and distribution and logistics experience desirable. Minimum of 5-7 years in a Supervisory/Management role
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, including ability to express well-reasoned, independent thought. Natural ability to speak and write effectively at all organizational levels
  • Strong knowledge of Production and Inventory Control within manufacturing environment with the ability to teach and coach others on best practices
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage several complex projects at the same time with high degrees of variation and uncertainty. Ability to understand and navigate through the intricacies of multiple systems
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing concepts and material flow methodologies with the ability to lead 5S and kaizen efforts for continuous improvement. Experience applying and using material flow analysis tools, including simulation, time study analysis (dynamic and static)
  • Understanding of FTZ (foreign trade zone), hazmat regulatory requirements, OSHA & powered equipment work standards, and how to maintain required movement and storage of related inventory
  • Strong knowledge of fixed, automated, and semi-automated material handling systems in a dense, high volume manufacturing or distribution system environment
