Production Accountant, reporting to the Team Lead, Production Accounting. The Production Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant production, revenue, royalty income, and royalty accounting for a portfolio of non-operated oil & gas assets. This role focuses on validating third party operator data, reconciling production volumes, calculating royalty obligations, and supporting financial reporting related to non-operated properties.

What you will doNon-Operated Production Accounting Responsibilities
- Review, validate, and reconcile monthly production volumes, sales statements, and allocation reports received from operators.
- Royalty Income review, validation and booking.
- Analyze variances between operator reported volumes and internal expectations; investigate discrepancies and coordinate resolution with operators.
- Maintain accurate production records for all non operated wells, facilities, and units, ensuring alignment with contractual interests and ownership changes.
- Monitor shut ins, curtailments, downtime, and operational changes communicated by operators and assess impacts on production and revenue.
- Dispute resolution and cleanup.
Royalty & Revenue Accounting
- Calculate and record crown, freehold, GORR, and contractual royalties based on validated production and pricing data.
- Ensure royalty calculations comply with provincial regulations (AER, Alberta Crown framework, etc.) and lease terms.
- Reconcile royalty statements from operators and third party royalty payors; identify errors and pursue corrections.
- Prepare and post monthly revenue entries, including sales, royalties, transportation, and marketing deductions.
- Support the preparation of royalty tax filings and submissions as required.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare monthly production and revenue summaries for Finance, Joint Venture Accounting, and Corporate Reporting teams.
- Support accruals for production, royalties, and transportation based on operator data and historical trends.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing production, revenue, and royalty documentation.
- Maintain compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
Data Management & Systems
- Maintain accurate master data, ownership decks, and royalty configurations in production accounting systems.
- Work with IT and Finance teams to improve data automation, reporting accuracy, and workflow efficiency.
- Utilize production accounting software (e.g., Metrix, EnergyLink, Pandell) to process and validate operator data.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Liaise with operators to resolve data issues, clarify reporting discrepancies, and obtain missing information.
- Partners with Land, JV, and Finance teams to ensure ownership, royalty terms, and contractual obligations are accurately reflected.
- Provide production and royalty insights to Planning, Reserves, and Commercial teams as needed.
What are we looking forOur ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- CAPPA (Canadian Association of Petroleum Production Accounting) Certificate.
- 3-7 years of production accounting experience in the oil & gas industry, with strong exposure to non operated assets.
- Solid understanding of Canadian royalty frameworks (Alberta Crown, Crown, freehold, GORR, ORR).
- Proficiency with financial and production accounting systems such as Metrix, Qbyte FM, CS Land, Petrinex, PVR, EnergyLink, Energy Components or equivalent.
