Full Job Description
Veeco is seeking a Product Support Engineer, Ion Beam New Product Introduction, to support new product development and new product introduction launches from a Service readiness perspective. This role will focus on Veeco's Ion Beam Systems and Sources portfolio, including ion beam deposition, ion beam sputtering, etch, and source technologies used in advanced thin-film, data storage, MEMS, optical coating, and other precision manufacturing applications.

The Product Support Engineer will serve as a key technical liaison between the factory, field service organization, and customers during Ion Beam product development, launch preparation, installation, and early field adoption. This position is responsible for helping translate Ion Beam system and source knowledge from design, development, and manufacturing into practical service execution, including technical documentation, training, launch deliverables, field support readiness, and escalation resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Support new product development and new product introduction activities by representing Service requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Work with cross-functional project teams to introduce new products, technologies, and service solutions.
  • Develop working expertise in Veeco Ion Beam Systems and Sources, including deposition, sputtering, etch, ion source operation, vacuum-based process environments, and related subsystem interactions.
  • Contribute to product design-for-service reviews to help ensure new systems are installable, maintainable, supportable, and ready for field deployment.
  • Own, coordinate, or support Service Product Life Cycle deliverables required for product launch readiness.
  • Verify that Service-related NPI deliverables are completed prior to launch, including documentation, training, procedures, service plans, installation readiness, and field support requirements.
  • Transfer knowledge from Engineering, Manufacturing, and Development teams to Technical Support, Field Service, Training, Documentation, and customer-facing service teams.
  • Develop product and application expertise at the Ion Beam system, subsystem, source, and component level.
  • Develop, review, and improve technical documentation, service procedures, training material, and field support content.
  • Deliver or support technical training for Field Service Engineers, Technical Support teams, customers, and other service personnel.
  • Support system installations, field readiness activities, service escalations, and other customer-facing technical support efforts.
  • Provide on-the-job training and launch support to Field Service Engineers during installations, upgrades, troubleshooting, and early product adoption.
  • Coordinate factory and field resources in response to technical issues, field support requests, customer escalations, and launch-related challenges.
  • Establish timelines, track deliverables, identify risks, and help ensure Service launch readiness tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Provide supplemental after-hours technical support when required to support customers, field personnel, critical escalations, or launch activities.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to support new product installations, customer engagements, factory readiness, field training, and technical escalations.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in Technical Support, Field Service, Product Support, Engineering Support, semiconductor equipment, vacuum-based equipment, ion beam technology, technical manufacturing, or a related. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong technical background in semiconductor equipment, ion beam systems, vacuum systems, thin-film deposition, etch, sputtering, capital equipment, or complex electromechanical systems.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to quickly develop system-level and subsystem-level knowledge of Ion Beam platforms, source technologies, vacuum environments, and related process applications.
  • Ability to bridge communication between Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, Field Support, and customers.
  • Strong understanding of field service needs, customer support expectations, and launch readiness requirements.
  • Ability to identify Service risks during product development and drive actions to reduce launch and support issues.
  • Comfortable working in both factory and customer-site environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to lead technical issue resolution through collaboration and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to create clear, practical, and field-ready documentation and training content.

Salary and BenefitsThe expected salary range for this position is $82,734.00 -$104,796.00, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
