Job Description:

The Process & Product Implementation Engineer - Packaging is the factory-level R&D representative responsible for implementing new packaging materials, packaging processes, packaging equipment, product/package changes, and packaging sustainability initiatives within the site. The role supports safe, compliant, and efficient deployment by applying R&D specifications, assessing industrial risks, leading site trials, and partnering with Operations, Engineering, Q&FS, CVS, Regional R&D Deploy, and Packaging Technology teams.

This role is based in Guelph with regular in-office collaboration expected. Flexibility is a key enabler-empowering associates to make choices that support both business outcomes and personal needs, including remote work.

What are we looking for?
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience with high school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Experience supporting technical trials, validation activities, startup activities, or industrialization projects.
  • Experience with packaging equipment, packaging materials, or manufacturing systems preferred.
  • Advanced problem-solving expertise (Six Sigma, process control statistics), Lean/SixSigma certification is a plus
  • Knowledge of Lean/MSE principles and activity management (QuEST/QES).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to transfer procedures and training experiences to others.
  • Travel 15% - 20%


What will be your key responsibilities?

Packaging Innovation Deployment & Transfer
  • Deploy and execute R&D strategies for growth, quality, efficiency, and sustainability by implementing R&D innovations on site related to products, packs, processes, packaging equipment, and packaging systems.
  • Lead site-level packaging line trials from preparation through execution, reporting, and follow-up.
  • Coordinate line availability, sampling plans, resources, stakeholders, materials, and reporting requirements.
  • Complete trial reports and provide technical recommendations to Operations, Engineering, Q&FS, CVS, Regional R&D Deploy, and Packaging Technology teams.


R&D specifications Implementation & Conformance
  • Ensure R&D specifications are implemented locally, including product, process, packaging material, packaging equipment, and packaging process specifications.
  • Identify specification gaps and escalate to Regional R&D Deploy or Packaging Technology as needed.
  • Implement and follow up statistical process control for process control management.
  • Define, validate, and sustain Standard Running Conditions in the affected process or packaging perimeter.
  • Collaborate with CVS, Operations, Engineering, Technical, and Q&FS teams to implement and validate new technical standards, packaging equipment, or packaging line changes.


Trial Documentation, Handover, and Knowledge Management
  • Establish and follow operational control systems including change management, Industrial GO, Hand Over 1, Hand Over 2, and Qualification Review.
  • Document trial plans, results, learnings, deviations, and recommendations in a consistent format.
  • Support improved tracking of trial execution, trial completion, and reporting performance.
  • Ensure lessons learned from trials, start-ups, and project execution are captured and shared with appropriate site and regional stakeholders.


Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
  • Develop and sustain training modules for packaging processes, packaging materials, equipment operation, standards, SRCs, and trial execution.
  • Transfer procedures, standards, and technical knowledge to Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Q&FS, and factory teams.
  • Support onboarding and development of associates involved in packaging implementation and trial execution.
  • Participate in the regional PPI platform to share technology learnings, best practices, and knowledge transfer as part of multi-site harmonization.


Support compliance to operating standards
  • Proactively support Safety, Q&FS, Environment, SIG, and site operating standards.
  • Support HSE and Q&FS requirements during trial planning, startup, validation, and implementation.
  • Support investment submissions by helping identify technical needs, benefits, and expected factory impact.
  • Ensure implementation activities follow relevant industrialization, food safety, quality, and factory governance processes.
