About the Role

This role will shape Product Policy's approach to youth's use of and experiences with AI, supporting our growing investments in creating safe, age-appropriate, and beneficial experiences for young people across our platforms. Areas such learning and education, age appropriate experiences and more. This will include partnering across teams to develop policies that support safe, age-appropriate, and positive experiences for young people. You will work closely with product, research, integrity, safety, and operations teams to understand young people's needs, anticipate risks, and prevent misuse across our tools and products.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees. There will be travel required for this role.

You'll be responsible for:
  • Developing and maintaining policy frameworks that govern how OpenAI products are designed, launched, and operated for youth (including the broad spectrum of needs within that bucket), including standards for age-appropriate experiences, access, privacy, learning, wellbeing, content, family involvement, and other youth-related considerations.
  • Partnering cross-functionally with Product, User Ops, Legal, Safety, Integrity, Research, Communications, and Global Affairs to align on youth needs, risk, product launches, incident response, and external commitments.
  • Translating policy into practice by creating clear implementation standards, product requirements, enforcement protocols, and escalation paths that engineering, operations, integrity, and trust and safety teams can embed directly into OpenAI's products and systems.
  • Identifying opportunities to leverage data, research, expert input, and feedback from young people and families to inform and improve our policy work.

  • We're looking for candidates with expertise in youth technology, education, or young people's experiences with digital products-particularly as these areas relate to AI-who can partner closely with product teams to shape responsible platform policy and experiences. Ideal candidates bring a strong understanding of the youth and AI policy landscape and can translate that expertise into clear, practical guidance for product teams and company leadership.

You'll might thrive in this role if you;
  • Have 4+ years of experience in youth technology, trust and safety, policy, research, education/ed tech, child development, or a related field, with exposure to how technology platforms design for and manage risks affecting youth.
  • Have specific and deep experience with product work, partnering with technical teams to shape responsible and age-appropriate product development.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate with product managers, engineers, researchers, policy experts, and executives alike.
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity and enjoy taking work from zero to one.
  • Are a creative thinker with an eye for opportunities to use data, research, and user insights to inform policy.
  • Understand how young people, families, educators, civil society, governments, enterprise customers, and other stakeholders think about youth use of and experiences with AI.
