The Product Physics Manager directs and guides the activities of a research or physics design function responsible for designing, developing, modifying and evaluating medical physics devices, supporting software, algorithm development, data modeling, or other product physics responsibilities. Evaluates results of research and development projects to assure accomplishment of technical objectives. Prepares and presents reports outlining the outcome of technical projects and makes recommendations for actions necessary to achieve desired results. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
Key Areas of Responsibility:Leadership
- Manage Product Physics group, consisting of approximately eight associates with advanced degrees
- Mentor junior Physicists and Research Engineers
- Participate in Research and Development planning activities (budgets, roadmap support, research proposals, etc.)
Physics concepts
- Review and guide key physics concepts during research and development phases
- Provide Physics guidance to senior management
- Maintain Physics design guidelines
Product development
- Assist in Product Physics responsibilities as required: product definition, algorithm development, performance testing, data analysis, risk analysis, etc.
- Lead and/or perform feasibility studies that explore new technologies or product ideas
- Maintain Physics development processes
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Highly experienced in experimental design, algorithm development, device measurements, data analysis, and risk analysis
- Effective programming abilities (Matlab, C++/C#, Monte Carlo techniques)
- Strong interpersonal skills (must be able to function well in a cross-functional team environment)
- Excellent communication abilities (written, oral, and presentations)
- Effective organizational abilities (time management, managing small projects)
- A strong understanding of Medical Physics is desired but not required
Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Physics or related discipline (e.g., medical physics or nuclear engineering) and at least 10 years related experience or Ph.D. in a similar field and at least 6 years related experience, which is defined as post graduate experience in product development (medical field desired) as a Scientist
- Previous management experience desired but not required
