Product Manager - Sweeteners

Department: Purchasing, Distribution,
Location: Itasca
Type: Full-Time

Summary:

The Product Manager is responsible for the overall performance of a product portfolio, focused on driving sustainable and profitable growth for the overall business. The Product Manager leads the design and execution of the product strategy and is responsible for portfolio management, pricing strategy and technical knowledge based sales. This position works cross functionally in the organization and has customer facing interactions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

Strategic Planning: Define and execute product line strategies and tactics, building on global/regional product strategies and local category strategies.
  • Lead development and execution of product line strategy vision, ensuring prioritization and proper communication across the organization.
  • Conduct analysis on the current business to identify how best to implement the business model
  • Compile competitor intelligence, and incorporate learnings into ongoing platform management
  • Ensure that all dealings are with vendors providing high quality products and services, while following the highest code of ethics and conduct


Product Line profitability: Drive profitability for the business through pricing strategy and margin management; clear ownership of break-even points, target margins, and price banding

Set product line pricing strategy, including floor pricing and target pricing for individual SKUs
  • Monitor market conditions to determine necessary changes in item pricing (both up and down) and adjust target inventory levels, purchasing biases, and price lists accordingly
  • Work together with management to outline targets (growth rate, revenue, CM, GP criteria)
  • Work with the sales team as the product and market expert on portfolio


Portfolio Management: Optimize the product portfolio to SKU level, making choices about new SKU commercialization, SKU rationalization
  • Review and approve sales orders for managed products
  • Manage inbound receipt process


Distribution Optimization: Participate at the cross-functional team to identify and realize optimization potential across the value chain
  • Ensure product inventory is maintained at appropriate levels for assigned products
  • Monitor costs and develop inventory levels
  • Maintain minimum designated turns on all items in portfolio
  • Eliminate excess and overstock inventories


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will have no supervisory responsibilities.

Required Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, plus three years minimum work experience in a sales or product management environment, preferably in the international food and beverage or flavor and fragrance ingredients distribution industry. Previous experience with high volatility commodity products preferred.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Inventory software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Travel:

Up to 20% travel

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Work environment is normally in an office setting. Must be able to make frequent rounds in a warehouse environment
  • Ability to view a computer screen and type for extended hours
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Other physical requirements include moderate standing and occasional squatting, bending, and twisting
  • Ability to work around a variety of different smells and aromas
  • Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require.
