Full Job Description
Product Engineer - Materials Engineering

We are currently hiring a Product Engineer to join our Millersburg, Oregon facility reporting to the Manager of the Materials Engineering Team. The Product Engineer position is instrumental in managing and taking ownership of assigned products associated with primary metals mill products such as sheet, plate, tube, pipe, rod, wire, etc. in various alloy systems. The Product Engineers will work cross-functionally with other departments such as Operations, Sales, Planning, Quality, Inspection, Finance as well as customers. Time is split between process improvements and monitoring on the production floor with office work in various systems for control of the processing and written instructions to take product from intermediate to the finished product.

A successful Product Engineer will drive efficiency and continuously improve manufacturing processes to reduce costs, improve quality, minimize process variability and reduce cycle times. To be successful and provide immediate impact you will have to quickly learn ATI's processes, products and customers, have strong problem-solving skills, a continuous improvement mindset, the ability to act quickly and make impactful decisions, and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Review customer purchase orders and specifications to ensure manufacturability.
  • Write process instructions and ensure that such instructions are consistent and compliant with current manufacturing standards and capabilities.
  • Continuously improve manufacturing processes to reduce costs, improve quality, minimize process variability and reduce cycle time.
  • Actively participate with and/or lead cross functional teams for problem solving and improvement objectives.
  • Collaborate with and provide technical assistance to customers within assigned product line.
  • Support customer, supplier, and internal audits.

  1. Product line issues are contained and resolved efficiently.
  2. Strong working relationships are established across Operations, Supply Chain, Inspection, Sales, and Quality teams, enabling rapid resolution of issues and effective implementation of improvements.
  3. Clear communication across multiple departments for product line needs.
  4. Ability to produce well-executed, predictable, and repeatable products
  5. Production and quality risks are identified and resolved before impacting customers.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Metallurgical, Materials, Mechanical, Manufacturing or related field)
    • The ability to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) Security Clearance.
      • Candidates must be willing and able to provide information necessary to verify eligibility and receive authorization to access Controlled Unclassified Information related to U.S. Department of Defense or U.S. Department of Energy programs. Verification and authorization may be required from (1) the U.S. Government, (2) the security organizations of ATI's customers in the U.S. Government's defense and national security supply chains, or (3) ATI's Law Department.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates with technical background in heavy industrial engineering, familiarity with fundamental metalworking processes or experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills, creativity and an ability to innovate
  • The successful candidate will have a strong aptitude for applying Engineering principles in solving manufacturing issues.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to plan, organize and control multiple activities.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to cohesively work with employees, customers and cross-functional teams are essential.
  • An established track record of continuous improvement (6 Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, etc) is highly preferred.
