Product Engineer - Body ClosuresOverview / Summary We are seeking a Product Engineer with experience in Body Closures, specifically Side Door Assemblies and related opening and closing systems. The engineer will be responsible for component development and release throughout the product lifecycle, including concept design, supplier engagement, BOM management, systems requirements, simulation analysis, prototyping, validation testing, and production support.
The role will also involve identifying root causes and developing technical solutions for issues affecting production while supporting cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing objectives.
Key Responsibilities - Support Side Door Assemblies, including door structures, hinges, check arms, and related components.
- Support component development and release throughout the product lifecycle.
- Participate in concept design, supplier engagement, BOM management, systems requirements, simulation analysis, prototype builds, validation testing, and production support.
- Support program cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing targets.
- Apply Six Sigma methodology and 8D problem-solving techniques.
- Develop Engineering Statements of Work and participate in sourcing activities.
- Participate in technical design reviews.
- Manage and update Bills of Materials (BOM) throughout the product lifecycle.
- Support change control activities and engineering changes.
- Identify required validation, durability, and functional testing.
- Provide technical solutions to emerging engineering and production issues.
- Define and verify engineering prototype requirements at the part level.
- Support parts implementation and sign-off at assembly plants during project milestones.
- Support quality and plant teams in resolving production and quality issues.
- Work with purchasing and suppliers to support component development.
- Provide technical assistance to suppliers as required.
- Lead or support cross-functional teams in resolving engineering issues.
- Track part development activities to support on-time and quality delivery within applicable constraints.
- Plan ahead to identify potential issues associated with proposed engineering solutions.
- Support manufacturing-related activities involving processes such as stamping and forging.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree.
- 2 or more years of experience related to Body Closures, specifically Side Door Assemblies and related opening and closing systems.
- Experience with component development and release for door structures, hinges, check arms, or related closure components.
- Experience with concept design, supplier engagement, BOM management, systems requirements, simulation analysis, prototyping, validation testing, and production support.
- Mechanical Engineering knowledge, including Mechanics of Materials, steel and aluminum mechanical properties, statics, and dynamics.
- Experience with manufacturing processes such as stamping and forging.
- Proficiency in CATIA and/or 3DX.
- Experience with 3D modeling.
- Familiarity with Teamcenter or similar CAD repository systems.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret CAE reports.
- Understanding of Six Sigma methodology and the DMAIC process.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Experience managing Bills of Materials.
- Ability to identify root causes and develop technical solutions to engineering and production issues.
