Position Overview

The Product Development Engineer plays a critical role in designing, developing, testing, and implementing innovative product and component solutions that improve product performance, quality, manufacturability, and cost efficiency. This position partners closely with Product Management, Manufacturing, Operations, Purchasing, and Project Management teams to take concepts from prototype through production while driving continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

What you'll do
  • Design, develop, and improve mechanical components, assemblies, and mechanisms for new product development and sustaining engineering projects.
  • Create and maintain detailed CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Conduct root cause investigations, analyze test and production data, and implement corrective actions for product quality and reliability issues.
  • Perform design reviews, tolerance stack-up analyses, DFMEA assessments, and design verification testing to ensure product robustness and compliance.
  • Prototype, validate, and optimize designs using rapid prototyping techniques, including 3D printing.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management, Manufacturing, Operations, Purchasing, and Project Management to support product development initiatives and production launches.
  • Review and approve first article inspections while ensuring components and assemblies meet engineering specifications.
  • Identify and execute cost reduction opportunities through design improvements, material optimization, vendor qualification, and manufacturing enhancements.
  • All other duties as assigned

Who you are
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) required.
  • 3+ years of experience in product development, design engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related mechanical engineering role.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, mechanisms, and component design.
  • Experience with plastic injection molding, engineered plastics, and extrusion-based product design.
  • Knowledge of design validation methodologies including DFMEA, tolerance analysis, and statistical data analysis.
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and problem-solving using engineering and data-driven tools.
  • Familiarity with metrology equipment such as calipers, gauges, comparators, and vision systems.
  • Strong project management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in both office and manufacturing environments while supporting prototype builds, testing, and production activities.
