Responsibilities

Product Development Engineer II - Plymouth, MN - Hybrid

Daikin Applied is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Product Development Engineer II to join our rapidly growing organization. This role will lead the design, testing, and launch of new products for our customers as approved by the Applied Air Handling team. What you will do:
  • Lead in the development of primary systems and sub-systems of commercial HVAC equipment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members, driving towards releasing innovative HVAC products
  • Develop electro-mechanical designs of appropriate complexity, supporting program quality, cost, and schedule
  • Develop test plans and performs testing of components and sub-systems, supporting performance, reliability, and industry certification
  • Work cross-functionally with groups such as design and test, supporting product design to meet business needs
  • Support the execution of the new product development phase-gate process, demonstrating appropriate design maturity and growth across various milestones
  • Technical Development of HVAC equipment using engineering fundamentals such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics and mechanical analysis. Contributing on the design of the following subsystems:
    • vapor compression refrigeration systems
    • fans, motors, mechanical drives, and variable speed technologies
    • Indoor Air Quality solutions: filtration media, ventilation, UV lighting
    • energy recovery systems: heat wheels, air-to air heat exchangers
    • heating systems: gas furnaces, electric resistance heaters, hot water coils
    • cabinetry/structural systems: leakage and pressure testing, accelerated life testing, seismic and wind loading
    • unit controls design and validation: sequence of operation, control algorithms, & associated control devices
  • Conduct Laboratory testing and validation of HVAC systems
  • Collaborate on cross functional teams to test our equipment in our state-of-the-art Technology Center
  • Provide technical leadership to bring design concepts to production solutions
  • Partner with CAD designers to execute product designs
  • Collaborate with advanced simulation teams to perform FEA and CFD analysis of design concepts
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to transform engineering designs into production equipment

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in product development, or combination of education and professional experience
  • Must have good communication skills and work well in a group setting, under supervision of others
  • Ability to meet deadlines, and to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a "team-player" mentality
  • Desire to learn and develop world class HVAC knowledge and experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the HVAC industry
  • Basic skills with CAD applications
  • Master's degree in technical, scientific, engineering, or related area

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $83,300 - $105,900 in Minnesota. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
