  • Develop project plans and provide regular updates on project status.

Full Job Description
We are a journey of continuous growth - now looking for our next star - a passionate Product Designer Mechanical. This position reports to Mechanical Engineering Manager and will work in Vancouver, BC.

About the position

As a Product Designer- Mechanical in the Vancouver team, you will be responsible for end-to-end development of mechanical and electromechanical products used in marine control systems.

Your main responsibilities

Product Development & Design
  • Design mechanical and electromechanical assemblies and components, including concept generation, 3D CAD modeling, material selection, and stress analysis.
  • Participate in the full product development lifecycle, including requirements definition, design, development, implementation, validation, launch, and ongoing support.
  • Apply structured design tools and methodologies such as QFD, CAD, and DFMEA in accordance with ISO 9001 procedures.

Testing, Validation & Documentation
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, DFMEAs, test plans, and test reports.
  • Plan and execute validation and qualification testing, including environmental, lifecycle, and corrosion testing (e.g., salt spray).
  • Lead and participate in formal design reviews.

Manufacturing & Supply Chain Collaboration
  • Manage engineering Bills of Materials for production assemblies and support MRP systems.
  • Participate in make-versus-buy evaluations for components and assemblies.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering, supply chain, and production teams to support product launch and ongoing production.
  • Interface with suppliers and represent Dometic in technical discussions.

Project Execution
  • Develop project plans, coordinate technical activities, and provide regular updates on project status, risks, and milestones.

A suitable background would be a solid experience within engineering environment as well as the following qualifications and experiences:
  • 3+ years of industry or relevant experience.
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Registered or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
  • Proficiency with Creo Parametric and Windchill PDMLink or similar CAD and PLM systems.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and coatings.
  • Experience with volume production processes such as casting, extrusion, powder metal, injection molding, precision machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
  • Working knowledge of electric motors, electromechanical actuators, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and valves.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, sensors, and test equipment.
  • Understanding of test methodology and design of experiments.
  • Working knowledge of applicable safety and regulatory requirements (UL, CSA, CE) and industry standards (SAE, ASTM, ISO).
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to quickly learn new tools.
