The ChallengeThe construction industry is overdue for a design revolution. Brickeye sits at the intersection of hardware and software, and we need a designer who can too. You'll shape experiences that live in both the physical world and the digital one - from the devices deployed on job sites to the platforms that make sense of the data they collect. Our hardware lives on active construction sites, so how it looks and feels matters: a well-designed enclosure builds trust with the field crews and executives who use it every day. This is a rare opportunity to work across disciplines, and the right person will thrive in that complexity.
Core Responsibilities- Own the end-to-end design process from discovery and wireframes to polished, production-ready UI
- Translate complex data and real-time alerts into intuitive, user-friendly experiences built for non-technical users in the field
- Collaborate closely with engineering across multiple disciplines to ship designs that are both beautiful and buildable
- Shape the industrial design of our hardware - enclosures, form factor, materials, and finish - so devices feel considered and durable, not just functional
- Bring an aesthetic point of view to physical products, balancing manufacturability, ruggedness for job-site conditions, and visual coherence with our software brand
- Partner with hardware engineering early in the process, not just at the polish stage, so design intent survives contact with real constraints (thermal, enclosure tolerances, placement limitations, cost)
- Leverage AI tools (Claude, Figma, Cursor) to move faster, prototype smarter, and continuously raise the bar on what's possible
- Build and maintain a cohesive design system that scales across our product suite
- Interview real users, synthesize feedback, and bring a strong point of view on what should be built next
⚙ What You Bring- 2+ years of product design experience
- Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Engineering in Industrial Design/Systems/Mechical, or related field - or equivalent experience
- A portfolio that demonstrates strong software design across web/mobile and industrial design
- An eye for aesthetics that extends beyond screens: you notice when a physical object feels cheap or ill designed, and you can articulate why
- Comfortable working directly with engineers; you understand technical constraints and use them as creative inputs, not blockers
- Hands-on - you enjoy crafting physical products using things like hand tools, power tools, 3D printers, CNC machines etc.
- Fluent with modern design tools (Figma, Claude Design, 3D CAD) and genuinely passionate about AI-assisted workflows
- The mindset of a startup designer: self-directed, resourceful, comfortable with ambiguity, and always learning
- Strong opinions, loosely held; you can defend your decisions and adapt when the feedback is right
- Industrial design or physical product design experience - we're looking for someone who can talk convincingly about form, materials, and manufacturability, not just software U
🤖 AI-First MindsetWe believe in AI's power
- Early Adopter: You actively use AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and others) to unlock new possibilities beyond traditional methods. You are energized by how AI enhances what you can achieve.
- Productivity Multiplier: You view AI as an essential amplifier of innovation and team efficiency-not a substitute for critical thinking or strategic judgment.
At Brickeye, people make our hiring decisions - every application selected is personally reviewed by our team. We do use AI tools to assist in screening applications as part of that process.
