Product Design Director (Individual Contributor), Concierge Products & Premium Card
We’re currently seeking a Product Design Director (IC) to join our Concierge Products & Premium Card teams, part of the Experience Design organization.
The Premium Design team sets the bar for Capital One’s high-spender customer experience ecosystem, revolving around highly useful, personalized, and high-stakes products. We are seeking a Product Design Director (Individual Contributor) to serve as a strategic partner and craft leader across our broader ecosystem—spanning both Concierge products (including Velocity Black and agent tools) and Premium Card experiences. Velocity Black is a premium lifestyle digital concierge service that delivers exclusive travel, entertainment, shopping, and dining offerings to consumers globally. In this role, you won't directly manage a team, but you will shape high-level design vision, spearhead AI-driven design workflows, and elevate the practice alongside other design leads. You will collaborate deeply with craft leads, designers, and cross-functional partners to push creative boundaries, raise team capabilities, and craft exceptional native experiences that allow Capital One to win at the top of the market.
Role Expectations
As a Product Design Director on the Concierge Products & Premium Card teams, you’ll leverage your elite design craft and strategic vision to lead high-impact, highly complex projects while pioneering modern approaches to product design. You will integrate emerging AI tools and intelligent workflows into the design practice—acting as a force multiplier across the team. Rather than working in isolation, you will bring others along by establishing playbooks, mentoring teammates, and raising the baseline of execution across the organization. You’ll collaborate deeply with research teams, Product, and Engineering leadership to translate complex capabilities into intuitive, high-value customer experiences.
Here are some of the expected competencies for this role:
Product Design & AI Innovation: Leverage deep expertise across interaction, visual, and service design while actively embedding AI-assisted tools and workflows into the design lifecycle. Establish modern frameworks and rapid prototyping capabilities that elevate practice maturity and team velocity.
Team Elevation & Mentorship: Act as a force multiplier for the entire design organization. Elevate collective craft through active mentorship, structured knowledge-sharing, and constructive critique—upskilling peers in AI capabilities, design strategy, and execution so the whole team grows together.
Strategic Influence:Shape long-term product direction by integrating design craftsmanship, user insights, business strategy, and emerging technologies. Partner with senior cross-functional leaders to ensure human-centered design principles drive key architectural and product choices.
Human-Centered:Champion voices of both customers and partners, modeling the mindset that business and customer outcomes are not distinct but complementary, ultimately resulting in experiences that exceed baseline customer needs and expectations.
Business-Focused:Demonstrate expert knowledge of products, processes, customer segments, competitors, and market trends, applying relevant insights to ground design choices in clear business value.
Problem-Solving:Tackle complex, systemic challenges by combining data capabilities, technical constraints, and modern tooling to build bold, scalable digital solutions.
Collaboration:Connect the dots across teams, platforms, and lines of business, fostering open processes that bring cross-functional partners together to deliver cohesive, end-to-end customer experiences.
Communication: Present work confidently across levels and functions, leveraging strategic frameworks and data-backed stories to simplify complex technical ideas, align senior stakeholders, and advocate for user-centered outcomes.
The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating hands-on craft, strategic influence, technical innovation, and evidence of uplifting design capabilities across a broader team.
