Job Description

The ProcurementSpecialist III - Lab OEM, manages and continuously improves the assigned categories of spend. Collaborates with a cross-functional team of sourcing, operations, technical, finance and other key colleagues to prioritize sourcing initiatives, develop sourcing strategies, negotiate contracts, support spend migration from incumbent to preferred suppliers, and manage preferred supplier relationships.

Scale of Responsibilities
  • Completes global OEM supplier initiatives to deliver key performance indicators including savings, inflation mitigation, supplier rationalization, risk mitigation, and other performance improvement.
  • Completes global category initiatives to deliver year over year savings, supplier rationalization, and low-cost region sourcing.
  • Participates in the development and execution of 3 to 5-year global sourcing and OEM supplier strategies aligned to business priorities.
  • Analyzes cross-divisional Lab OEM spend and supports the development of global strategic sourcing plans to reduce the total cost of ownership and improve value realization.
  • Coordinates with Category Managers to engage with relevant Thermo Fisher business divisions ensuring alignment of supplier strategies, performance, and financial targets.
  • Participates in the management of OEM supplier lifecycle management including onboarding during NPIs (New Product Introductions and ongoing supplier management.
  • Supports the execution of global sourcing strategies focused on identifying and contracting with preferred suppliers that meet key business needs and category management goals.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Engages in thought leadership in developing and implementing sourcing and OEM supplier strategies.
  • Monitors market intelligence and key OEM supplier trends, assessing impact on the business and refining strategies.
  • Partners with Business functions (Product Management, operations, quality, etc.) to drive supplier performance management across quality, delivery, cost, and service metrics.
  • Actively participates in the planning and deliver of supplier business reviews with strategic OEM suppliers to ensure performance, innovation, and contractual compliance.
  • Supports Make vs OEM analysis to support strategic sourcing and investment decisions.
  • Participates in value analysis and value engineering (VA/VE) initiatives with OEM partners to deliver productivity savings.
  • Drives contract & commercial negotiations across OEM suppliers aligned with category strategies.
  • Supports and leads the supplier qualification process for new OEMs including supplier identification, competitive bidding via RFP, and supplier selection. Performs upfront and ongoing supplier financial due diligence assessments.
  • Engages and supports division/site procurement teams and other key colleagues to qualify for preferred suppliers & migrate spending from incumbent, non-preferred suppliers.
  • Supports supplier risk assessment and mitigation.


Leadership Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with cross-functional colleagues (product management, quality, technical, operations, finance, etc.) to align category and OEM supplier strategies with business priorities.
  • Partners with Category Managers, Division Business Partners and functional partners to gather business requirements for strategy development.
  • Supports the establishment of category plans and priorities globally and ensures alignment with divisional business priorities.
  • Influences stakeholders across procurement, product management, operations, and engineering to drive OEM value realization.
  • Performs OEM supplier performance tracking and utilizes communication mechanisms to report to key stakeholders.


Education, Experience, Knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree in business or technical field or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Minimum of 5 years' procurement/sourcing experience in mid-to large multinational companies, with strong category/business engagement experience or successful completion of a Thermo Fisher Leadership Development Program
  • Experience of driving results with strategic suppliers or OEM partners is preferred.
  • Business insight - knows how to assess market/business requirements dynamics and negotiate agreements that yield meaningful business value.
  • Experience working in highly regulated industries preferred.
  • Experience in a continuous improvement environment with a history of achieving significant year-over-year results.
  • Demonstrated consultative/collaborative style in performing sourcing activities.
  • Influences without authority to motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Firsthand manufacturing and/or supply chain experience is preferred.
  • Experience in life sciences, medical devices, or pharmaceutical industries is preferred.
  • Ability to travel 0 to 25%.
