Job Title: Procurement ManagerJob DescriptionThe Procurement Manager leads the development and execution of sourcing strategies that ensure supply continuity, optimize costs, and support business growth within a manufacturing environment. This on-site role in Connecticut manages supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, and drives procurement best practices aligned with company objectives, profitability targets, and compliance standards. The position offers the opportunity to run the procurement function with significant autonomy, operating the department like an independent business unit within a well-capitalized organization.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement sourcing strategies that align with supply chain objectives, business needs, and profitability targets.
- Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers that meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Manage RFQ and RFP processes, including preparing documentation, coordinating supplier responses, and facilitating supplier business reviews.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and commercial terms to secure favorable agreements and long-term partnerships.
- Maintain strong supplier relationships and partnerships, monitoring performance and addressing issues proactively.
- Collaborate closely with purchasing and supply planning teams to oversee purchasing and replenishment activities that support production schedules.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Analyze spend data, bill of materials (BOM) costs, and commodity trends to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.
- Manage procurement budgets and support broader cost-reduction initiatives across the organization.
- Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supplier developments to inform sourcing decisions and risk mitigation strategies.
- Prepare, analyze, and present procurement metrics, reports, and performance dashboards to leadership.
- Support production-driven supply chains by ensuring timely availability of materials and components.
- Leverage ERP and procurement systems to manage orders, track performance, and improve process efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes, tools, and practices to enhance effectiveness and transparency.
Essential Skills- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Applied Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, supply chain, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong negotiation skills with a proven ability to secure favorable commercial terms and long-term supplier agreements.
- Demonstrated supplier management capabilities, including evaluation, selection, performance monitoring, and relationship building.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across purchasing, supply planning, and leadership.
- Strong stakeholder management abilities, including influencing and aligning cross-functional teams.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in spend analysis, BOM cost analysis, and commodity trend assessment.
- Hands-on experience utilizing ERP or dedicated procurement systems in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Experience in supply chain management, procurement operations, procurement analysis, and purchasing in a manufacturing context.
- Ability to support production-driven supply chains and align procurement activities with manufacturing requirements.
- Experience in negotiation, production planning support, and vendor performance management.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Manufacturing industry experience, preferably in environments that produce metals, plastics, cable, or wire.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and cost structures related to materials, components, and production.
- Experience with metals or plastics manufacturing, including sourcing raw materials and components.
- Experience supporting cable, wire, or related industrial manufacturing environments.
- Exp in strategic sourcing and supplier management, including RFQ/RFP management and contract negotiation.
- Familiarity with commodity and raw material trend analysis and the implementation of cost-saving initiatives.
- Ability to thrive in a setting with minimal bureaucratic barriers, taking ownership of the procurement function and operating it with a business-owner mindset.
Work EnvironmentThis role is based on-site in Connecticut within a manufacturing environment that supports production-driven supply chains. The position involves regular collaboration with purchasing, supply planning, and production teams, and requires effective use of ERP or procurement systems as well as advanced Microsoft Office tools. Occasional travel is expected for supplier visits, industry events, and business needs. The work schedule is flexible, allowing the individual to determine start and end times as long as the total equals 40 hours per week, with the option to work remotely one day per week. The environment emphasizes autonomy, efficiency, and cost optimization, supported by strong financial resources and minimal internal red tape, creating a setting where the procurement function can be managed with substantial independence and ownership.
