Full Job Description
A Process Safety R&I Engineer, that : • provides Process Safety expertise to support Research & Innovation projects, process development, engineering activities, and existing industrial operations. • contributes to the development of innovative, safe, technically robust and economically competitive processes and technologies. • by working closely with R&I, Engineering, Process Safety and manufacturing teams, will use experimental approaches and engineering expertise to identify, characterize and mitigate process hazards from early-stage development through industrial implementation. The role combines Process Safety engineering expertise with hands-on experimental work. While the position is based in Bristol, part of the experimental Process Safety activities will be performed at our R&I center in Stamford, Connecticut, requiring regular collaboration and travel between the two sites. We count on you to: • Provide Process Safety expertise to R&I projects, process development, scale-up, Engineering activities and manufacturing sites. • Define, execute and interpret experimental Process Safety studies to characterize chemical and process hazards and recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures. • Take technical ownership of assigned studies, ensuring high standards of scientific quality, safety and documentation. • Translate experimental results into practical recommendations supporting safe process design, scale-up and industrial implementation. • Develop and maintain Process Safety capabilities by identifying new methodologies, technologies, equipment and collaboration opportunities. • Capture and share Process Safety knowledge, best practices and lessons learned across R&I, Engineering and manufacturing teams. • Actively contribute to internal and external Process Safety networks, collaborating with experts, universities, technical centers and equipment suppliers. SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES Understand and follow key Syensqo safety policies and procedures for the sites you'll be working, including but not limited to the following: • Emergency response / Crisis management / evacuation guidelines • Proper housekeeping • Know the location of first aid and emergency response equipment, chemicals, and chemical documentation. • Knowing and following key Syensqo safety policies and procedures for the site and the labs • Taking action and reporting any unsafe act / condition / behavior. Everyone on site is empowered to intervene on any unsafe act that they may observe. • Attending laboratory monthly safety training • Touring and reviewing safety equipment in the lab. • Being able to access and understand SDSs - preparing Lab Activity Checklists • Wearing appropriate PPE while in the laboratory • Obtaining advanced equipment or process specific safety training when necessary according to the specific dangers of present assignment You can count on us: • To carry out guided research where observation, independent deduction and directional input will be encouraged. • To give you the opportunity to interact with the different research teams in several scientific domains (e.g., microbiology, analytical,...) and markets (Agro, Home and Personal Care, Coatings, Industrial Process Solutions, Mining and Polymer Additives) • Based in Bristol, Pennsylvania, you will work at the intersection of Process Safety, experimental science and industrial innovation, contributing to projects from early-stage R&I through scale-up and industrial implementation. • To build strong technical expertise while collaborating with scientists, engineers and Process Safety specialists across a global organization. You will bring: • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering. An advanced degree is a plus. • 3+ years of xperience or strong technical knowledge in chemical/process safety, reaction engineering, process development or scale-up. • Experience with Process Safety experimental techniques such as reaction calorimetry, adiabatic calorimetry, thermal stability, runaway reaction characterization, flammability or explosion testing is a strong asset. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate experimental data into practical engineering recommendations. • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in multidisciplinary and international teams. • Strong communication, scientific curiosity and commitment to safety and technical excellence. You will get: • Competitive salary and benefits package • The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $81,000.00 to $123,000.00 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives. • 16, or more weeks, of maternity/paternity and co-parenting leave, according to local regulations • Training platform for all employees • Free well-being sessions (physical and psychological) Additional information: This position is located within the Synthesis & Development team at the Bristol Research & Innovation Center, a multidisciplinary site that also hosts application laboratories supporting Syensqo's Performance & Care - Novecare business unit. The R&I Synthesis & Development team develops new surfactants, monomers, specialty and natural polymers, and specialty additives for a broad range of markets, including beauty and personal care, home care, agriculture, coatings, and industrial applications. The team also develops and supports products for the mining industry, including collectors, frothers, depressants, flocculants, dispersants, and solvent-extraction reagents. The team provides process development and scale-up support for new products and technologies, as well as technical expertise to improve and optimize existing manufacturing processes.
