Full Job Description
is seeking serious applicants to fill the role of Process Engineer with a utilities system focus at the intermediate level.Work is performed in collaboration with a full complement of designers and engineers from a variety of disciplines. Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, the Process Engineer leads on an array of process/utility design analysis and systems implementation. This role provides the opportunity to utilize technical skills, to stay abreast of industry standards and trends, and to be a key team player to the successful completion of IFAB projects.

The ideal candidate for this position has experience working as a process or mechanical engineer in commercial, institutional, and/or industrial settings and is eager to expand capabilities. Added experience leading a design team and knowledge of the food and beverage sector would highlight an exemplary candidate.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Work closely with designers, fellow engineers, technical specialists, and project managers to design optimized industrial and commercial facilities;
  • Evaluate and interpret project requirements in order to develop innovative and good value solutions to clients' needs;
  • Develop utility design basis through definition study of project requirements;
  • Select process utility equipment and design utility systems to support process equipment operational needs. For example, utilities can include compressed air, process hot and cold water, steam and boiler systems, compressed gases, etc.;
  • Prepare process flow, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment layout plans, plant/process utility distribution plans and system details;
  • Prepare mass and energy balances;
  • Equipment procurement and bid evaluation;
  • Assist project management with the development of project scope, budget and schedule for all process and utility related work;
  • Help to coordinate the schedules and work of contractors for equipment installation;
  • Be the lead engineer on specific projects and be the client's main point of contact;
  • Research engineering best practices; and
  • Oversee equipment installations, and support start-up and commissioning as needed.


Position requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in Chemical, Mechanical or comparable Engineering program from a recognized college, university, or training institution;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, with preference for 8+;
  • Professional Engineer designation, or minimum requirement of certification expected in the next 12-18 months;
  • Experience within consulting industry, with the ability to prepare permit and tender documents, is an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong technical, organizational, coordination, and communication skills, as demonstrated through previous project work;
  • Desire to develop skills and expand career;
  • Working understanding of software such as AutoCAD, Revit or similar;
  • Proven experience with office software such as the MS Office Suite; and
  • Experience in the Food and Beverage Industry is considered an asset but is not a requirement.


Travel and working conditions:

  • Work is generally completed in a newly renovated office environment, with some days working from individual homes;
  • Some travel is necessary to support project presentations at client sites across Canada; travel is expected to be 10-15% of the time, with some overnight stays expected.
