Job Description:

What’s the role

The Process Operator position will be in Port Allen, LA at the Shell Catalyst and Technologies, LP, World Scale Hydro-processing Catalyst production plant. The processing facility consists of a Precipitated Alumina Plant, two catalyst extrusion lines, a catalyst impregnation line and metals solution formulation system.

The Process Operator is responsible for monitoring, controlling, starting and stopping equipment (such as pumps, furnaces, etc.) that pertains to unit operation and taking corrective action when necessary to ensure that all unit conditions and operations are following the Company’s safety, environmental and operating policies and procedures. Typical duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Accountabilities:

  • Ensuring strict compliance with the Company’s safety policies and procedures, taking immediate corrective action in the event, a potential issue or unsafe behavior is observed

  • Ensuring proper turn-over by providing effective written and oral communications to the relieving shift and technician that cover routine and non-routine issues, problems faced, unit operating conditions, etc.

  • Monitoring and accurately recording temperatures, pressures and rates of flow for upward or downward trends Utilizing process control computer interfaces to maintain variables within target rates

  • Maintaining good communications with other team members and with other facility teams (Utilities, Logistics, etc.)

  • Actively participating in the development and performance of assigned group tasks Performing required unit production quality control checks and analysis

  • Ensuring that operations are within environmentally permitting requirements

  • Performing required preventative maintenance and assisting in the troubleshooting of potential issues while providing assistance to others when unit problems occur

  • Ensuring efforts are documented in accordance with policies and procedures

  • Communicating with engineers, maintenance technicians and other team members to assist in identifying maintenance issues and planning and scheduling maintenance activities

  • Properly using personal computers for meeting daily performance expectations and accessing plant and unit information and procedures

  • Actively assuming personal accountability for meeting the Company’s standards of continuous personal and professional development

What we need from you

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the requirement of a work visa

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required

  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of current experience as a Process/Production Operator in a catalyst, petrochemical or refining work environment OR have an Associate of Applied Science degree in Process Technology OR relevant military experience in a relevant job function including but not limited to Aircraft maintenance, Aviation Boatswain Mate, Diesel Mechanic, Fuels/Maintenance Specialist, Petroleum fuels/supply Specialist, Nuclear Mechanic, Plant Operations, Gas turbine Technician, Machinist or Power Plant Mechanic/Operator

  • Must be able to read, speak, and write English fluently and understand operating procedures

  • Must possess a current, valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States

  • Willingness to work outside in inclement weather with or without accommodation

  • Willingness to work in compact and confined spaces with or without accommodation

  • Willingness to work at heights, climb ladders and stairs, walk on high elevation grating, work in inclement weather, work around loud industrial equipment, and work in confined spaces and outdoors with reasonable accommodations

The rate for this position is $36.58–$48.08. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, and internal equity.

For regular full-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
