Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Associate Engineer Facilities / Engineer Facilities to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals under one NGs Small Business Units, Sonoma Photonics, Inc. This role will be located onsite in Santa Rosa, CA.

We are looking for candidates with construction experience, industrial building knowledge and some experience with high vacuum deposition equipment. This individual will be communicating and working in and around an office and industrial environment. They must have knowledge of industrial building construction principals and typically will complete work in one or more of the maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, tile, carpet, concrete, light metal work, and experience in electrical components and installation. They will also be supporting general maintenance of vacuum and electro-mechanical equipment, assisting with troubleshooting, problem analysis, and data collection, and maintaining detailed documentation of procedures and systems. The selected candidate will report to the Facilities Manager and will support building needs and maintenance activities.

Essential Functions:
  • Create, update, and archive detailed maintenance procedures, system configurations, and repair logs.
  • Size, install, and troubleshoot 120 V-480 V circuits, distribution panels, and related infrastructure for both building systems and vacuum equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on vacuum chambers, pumps, and associated electromechanical components; conduct calibrations and performance checks.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, problem analysis, and data collection.
  • Flexibility in schedule: Ability to work flexible, changing shifts, including weekends
  • Adhere to all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety guidelines and regulations
  • Work and communicate over ambient noise
  • Work in a variety of work spaces/positions, such as ceilings/roofs. Work spaces may include but are not limited to small, enclosed spaces, awkward, and elevated spaces. Positions may include bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, ascending/descending ladders, and/or working overhead.
  • Plans, designs and oversees the reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities.
  • Gathers and reviews data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions, required completion date, and construction feasibility.
  • Inspects or directs the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.

Basic Qualifications:

Associate Facilities Engineer (Level 1):
  • Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and related professional/military experience
  • Experience working as an electrical/facilities/maintenance technician.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
  • Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices, which would include various hardware components, fasteners, and installation techniques for electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
  • Flexibility in schedule: Ability to work flexible, changing shifts, including weekends as business requires.
  • Ability to frequently lift and maneuver objects weighing to 50 lbs. independently.
    Able to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result.
  • Ability to communicating and working in and around ambient noise in an office and industrial environment.
  • Able to work in both external and internal environmental conditions.
  • Ability to work in areas that could cause various phobias such as heights or close spaces.
  • Ability to handle and assemble small parts.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level DOD security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Special Access Program (SAP) within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.


Facilities Engineer (Level 2):
  • Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 2 or more years of related professional/military experience OR a Masters of Science degree in a STEM discipline and related professional/military experience.
  • Related experience working as an electrical/facilities/maintenance technician.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
  • Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices, which would include various hardware components, fasteners, and installation techniques for electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
  • Flexibility in schedule: Ability to work flexible, changing shifts, including weekends as business requires.
  • Ability to frequently lift and maneuver objects weighing to 50 lbs. independently.
    Able to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result.
  • Ability to communicating and working in and around ambient noise in an office and industrial environment.
  • Able to work in both external and internal environmental conditions.
  • Ability to work in areas that could cause various phobias such as heights or close spaces.

  • Understanding of thin film optical coating machines.
  • Roughing and HV pumps
  • Programmable logic controllers (PLC)
  • Electrical and electronic controls
  • Machine shop equipment
  • Computer programs including AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Forklift and scissor lift operator
  • HVAC experience
  • Experience with variable frequency drives
  • Understanding of pump and water systems


What We Offer:

Primary Level Salary Range: $69,400.00 - $104,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $83,400.00 - $125,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
