The Process Engineer is responsible for improving existing manufacturing processes and implementing new equipment and technologies to support operational growth and performance. This role develops, evaluates, and optimizes manufacturing processes with a focus on safety, quality, efficiency, cost, productivity, and raw material utilization. The Process Engineer leads capital improvement initiatives, drives continuous improvement efforts, and partners with cross-functional teams to enhance manufacturing capabilities within a wire and cable production environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement new equipment, manufacturing technologies, and production processes to support business growth and operational objectives.
  • Develop, justify, and execute assigned capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects, including equipment selection, RFQ development, vendor evaluations, concept and design reviews, validation activities, and final equipment commissioning.
  • Develop manufacturing technologies and improve production processes for wire and cable products through technical analysis, process evaluation, root cause investigation, cost reduction initiatives, and performance optimization.
  • Establish equipment capability specifications, define process windows, develop tooling requirements, and implement improved manufacturing methods.
  • Lead assigned safety, ergonomic, and risk-reduction initiatives to improve workplace safety and employee well-being.
  • Manage projects focused on cost reduction, equipment utilization, downtime reduction, quality improvement, productivity enhancement, and process optimization.
  • Audit manufacturing and quality control procedures and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Train manufacturing supervisors and operators on new equipment, manufacturing processes, and operating procedures.
  • Maintain relationships with equipment suppliers and technology providers to stay informed of emerging manufacturing technologies and industry best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership in diagnosing manufacturing issues related to machinery, materials, process capability, and production performance; implement corrective and preventive actions as required.
  • Drive scrap reduction initiatives through equipment improvements, process optimization, material utilization strategies, and recovery programs.
  • Support continuous improvement programs related to:
    • Product quality improvements
    • Efficiency and productivity gains
    • Manufacturing process improvements
    • Cost reduction initiatives
    • Material utilization and scrap reduction
  • Develop, maintain, and update training documentation, work instructions, operator manuals, visual controls, and process standards.
  • Create and maintain machine-specific product processing documentation and manufacturing standards.
  • Support operational excellence initiatives and contribute to achieving facility performance objectives.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Equivalent experience in a wire and cable manufacturing environment may be considered in lieu of a four-year degree.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related technical function within a wire and cable manufacturing environment; or a minimum of ten years of relevant experience in another manufacturing industry.
  • Experience implementing and supporting safety and ergonomic improvement programs.
  • Demonstrated project management experience required; project management certification preferred.
  • Experience selecting, justifying, validating, implementing, and commissioning new manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to other Marmon Industrial Energy & Infrastructure facilities for training and project support.
  • Lean Manufacturing training or certification preferred.
  • Six Sigma training or certification preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to combine technical expertise with leadership and project management responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and a disciplined approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment performance, and process optimization techniques.
  • Ability to monitor equipment performance and analyze operational indicators to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Experience selecting and implementing tools, equipment, and technologies that improve manufacturing performance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain precise process controls and operating parameters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret technical, operational, and financial data from multiple sources.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, including prioritizing activities, allocating resources, making sound decisions, and implementing effective solutions.
  • Ability to make timely decisions regarding process adjustments needed to maintain product quality and operational efficiency.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to evaluate processes and operations for compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and internal requirements.
  • Ability to recognize trends, identify issues, and proactively implement corrective actions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with supervisors, peers, operators, vendors, and customers when necessary.

  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to distinguish details at both close and long distances.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate equipment, tools, computers, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to coordinate movements and perform tasks while sitting, standing, bending, squatting, reaching, or walking throughout a manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to use hands and arms to handle, position, install, and move materials and equipment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety procedures.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions as required.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Regular exposure to manufacturing environments with varying noise levels and moving equipment.
  • Work is performed in both climate-controlled office environments and active manufacturing facilities.
