Full Job Description

Process Engineer 1 Mission of the Position: Partner with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Project Engineering to develop, document, implement, and improve safe, capable manufacturing processes. This role converts product and customer requirements into repeatable production methods that improve quality, delivery, cost, and the internal and external customer experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support daily production by troubleshooting process and equipment issues, restoring stable operation, and helping the value stream achieve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost targets.

  • Develop and maintain work instructions, standard work, manufacturing routes, bills of material, process detail sheets, control plans, and other records required for repeatable and compliant production.

  • Partner with Project Engineering and Supply Chain to evaluate manufacturability, establish build parameters, and transfer new or modified products and processes from development into production.

  • Collect and analyze process data; identify variation, bottlenecks, and waste; and implement improvements using structured problem-solving, Lean, and statistical methods.

  • Create and implement process controls that meet customer specifications, quality-system requirements, and internal performance expectations.

  • Participate in root-cause investigations and corrective actions related to nonconformances, RMAs, CARs, and MRRs; verify that solutions are effective and sustained.

  • Support tooling, fixturing, and capital-equipment projects by defining technical needs, assisting with justification, coordinating trials, and completing validation and implementation documentation.

  • Work directly with operators, technicians, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, R&D, Sales, and other stakeholders to improve process capability and resolve manufacturing concerns.

  • Apply safety-first engineering practices, including risk assessment, machine guarding, lockout/tagout documentation, and safe operating requirements for new or modified processes.

  • Build subject-matter expertise in the assigned manufacturing area and cross-train in adjacent processes to strengthen operational coverage.

Major Challenges
  • Balancing immediate production support with planned continuous-improvement and new-process work.

  • Prioritizing competing safety, quality, delivery, cost, and project needs in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

  • Developing process knowledge where historical documentation or data may be incomplete.

  • Adapting plans as forecasts, customer requirements, equipment availability, and operational priorities change.

Expected Performance Outcomes
  • Become a dependable technical resource for the assigned manufacturing area and demonstrate increasing independence in troubleshooting and process ownership.

  • Deliver accurate, current production documentation for new and existing products and processes.

  • Support production in meeting organizational metrics through timely problem resolution and effective cross-functional collaboration.

  • Complete assigned process transfers, validations, and improvement projects with clear scope, documented results, and sustained controls.

  • Identify and implement opportunities that enable safe production at 100% quality while contributing to the annual goal of reducing average cost per piece by 5%.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Two or more years of process, manufacturing, industrial, or related engineering experience preferred; relevant internships, co-op assignments, or hands-on manufacturing experience may be considered.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems using data and structured methods such as 5 Whys, cause-and-effect analysis, 8D, FMEA, or equivalent approaches.

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing documentation, drawing interpretation, process controls, and production systems; experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office is preferred.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with operators, technicians, engineers, and cross-functional partners in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, statistical process control, capability analysis, CAD, tooling or fixture design, equipment validation, or process scaling is preferred.
