Full Job Description
Overview

As a Process Engineer at Foot Locker, you'll help power the engine behind a global sportswear brand undergoing one of the most significant supply chain modernization efforts in our history. This role is a critical technical leader within the distribution center (DC), responsible for designing, optimizing, and scaling the engineered systems and processes that move millions of units through our network.

You'll apply advanced engineering methods, automation know-how, and data-driven decision-making to unlock multi-million-dollar productivity, accuracy, and flow improvements. From optimizing Manhattan WMS functionality to tuning conveyance and sortation systems, you'll shape the future of how Foot Locker delivers for athletes and sneaker lovers around the world.

This is a role for a hands-on problem-solver who thrives where technology meets operations-inside a fast-paced environment that blends sports culture, cutting-edge systems, and major capital investments.

Responsibilities

Process Design & Standardization
  • Engineer, document, and maintain standard work across all DC functions using LEAN and statistical methods.
  • Design processes that fully leverage Manhattan WMS capabilities (Wave, WMOS, RF flows, cartonization, work queue logic).
  • Configure and optimize system-driven work (allocation strategies, pick-pathing rules, replenishment logic, exception handling).
  • Translate automation and software capabilities into floor-ready playbooks that drive consistent and scalable execution.
  • Design processes that integrate seamlessly with conveyance, sortation, print/apply, and packing automation.

Automation, Flow, and System Optimization
  • Analyze conveyor, merge, divert, and sortation performance using time studies, throughput modeling, and queue simulation.
  • Partner with Engineering to optimize equipment settings, network logic, accumulation zones, and rate balancing.
  • Lead improvements to automated equipment such as put-to-light, automated baggers, inline scan tunnels, dimensioners, and print/apply systems.
  • Run experiments and A/B tests on system behavior to improve cycle times, accuracy, and flow continuity.
  • Ensure system changes are technically validated, capacity-modeled, and aligned with peak readiness requirements.

Analytics, Modeling & Cost Savings
  • Use statistical analysis (regression, confidence intervals, process capability, and Pareto analysis) to quantify improvement opportunities and validate impact.
  • Build financial models that tie engineering changes to hard-dollar cost savings, labor hours, productivity gains, and throughput increases.
  • Own and report on the pipeline of engineering initiatives delivering $1M+ annual savings.
  • Develop predictive insights using historical data from WMS, automation controllers, and labor systems.

Root Cause Analysis & Execution Discipline
  • Lead RCA using 5-Why, fishbone, fault-tree analysis, and data-backed validation.
  • Separate equipment, system configuration, and process failures to eliminate recurring defects.
  • Ensure corrective actions are designed with both technical and operational considerations in mind.
  • Build monitoring dashboards and alerts for early detection of systemic issues.

Cross-Functional & Network Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with IT, Automation Engineering, Safety, Training, and DC Operations to deliver solutions from design through stabilization.
  • Influence leaders across the DC without formal authority by providing clear engineering rationale and business cases.
  • Support network-wide modernization initiatives, including large capital automation deployments and WMS upgrades.
  • Lead change management efforts that make new processes intuitive, adoptable, and execution-ready.
