Purpose of this position:

To plan, support and lead workstreams on process and/or technology projects, including:
  • Develop or support new manufacturing technologies and methods
  • Develop and apply new and existing product attribute characterization methods
  • Improve existing manufacturing processes and capabilities
  • Develop methods and processes for the manufacture and characterization of new products
  • Develop methods, measurements and processes to improve existing products
  • Support manufacturing improvement initiatives, including variability reduction, defect reduction, process control improvement, 6-Sigma


Key Accountabilities:

To provide engineering expertise and leadership for process technologies within the Environmental Technologies Division Engineering Process Integration group. Lead and support through process technology and engineering project sub-teams. Responsibilities include:

Responsibilities include:
  • Lead and/or support projects involving process development, capability improvement, and cost reduction in support of division engineering programs.
  • Support development and execution of CET technology strategy, roadmap, and project portfolio
  • Support problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause identification and resolution
  • Support manufacturing improvements, variability reduction, defect reduction, process control and capacity
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges.
  • Apply process engineering knowledge, skills, and experience from concept through delivery of process and equipment at manufacturing locations
  • Developing new, and improving existing manufacturing technologies, process, equipment, methods, and measurements
  • Developing methods, processes, and measurements for the manufacture of new products
  • Developing machines, methods, measurements, and processes to improve precision, quality, cost, and efficiency of product attributes
  • Support multiple plants within CET


Projects Involved with:

  • Developing new and improving existing manufacturing technologies, process, equipment, methods, and measurements. Developing methods, processes, and measurements for the manufacture of new products, as well as, to improve precision, quality, cost and efficiency of product attributes. Support manufacturing improvements, variability reduction, defect reduction, process control, capacity, and 6-Sigma.


Role Within Group:

  • Provide project workstream leadership, technical and process engineering skills to meet department goals and objectives
  • Member of Division Engineering Process Integration group with a focus on ceramic forming
  • Work with and facilitate alignment between manufacturing, development, engineering and process experts to deliver step change and improvement of process or equipment capabilities


Required Skills:

  • Technical competence in process or mechanical engineering; including chemical, ceramic, or material science with a process engineering aptitude.
  • Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly
  • Demonstrate fundamental understanding through science and engineering skills
  • Collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions
  • Ability to use the scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively
  • Strong data analysis, interpretation, and problem-solving skills

  • Basic knowledge of DMAIC / DESGN, MEE methodology


Desired Skill:

  • Project leadership aptitude, including ability to achieve results through matrix organization or team.
  • Strong ceramic processing and raw materials understanding (selection, beneficiation, characterization, and impact on process characteristics)
  • Demonstrated results developing and delivering step change innovations to manufacturing
  • Skills and experience with statistical process control and Design of Experiments methods
  • Experience with application of 6-Sigma methods and application of mechanistic understanding and hypothesis testing on technical problems
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in process improvement, measurement, characterization or ceramics processing
  • Experience in manufacturing, engineering or development

Education / Experience:
  • BS/MS in an engineering discipline (ceramic, materials, or chemical preferred)

Travel Requirements:
  • Travel should be expected, dependent on project assignments. International travel is possible. Typical travel requirement is 25% or less.


Location: Corning, NY

Work Hours: 40+ hours per week, typically 8 AM to 5 PM Monday Friday, some flex time is possible to support project assignments

The range for this position is $84,932.00 - $116,782.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
