Full Job Description
The Process & Capital Project Engineer is responsible for leading the development, design, and execution of process improvements and capital projects within the food manufacturing facility. This role focuses on optimizing production efficiency, ensuring food safety and quality, and supporting long-term operational goals. The engineer will collaborate with crossfunctional teams-including operations, maintenance, quality assurance, and safety-to implement new technologies, upgrade existing systems, and ensure project deliverables meet budget, timeline, and performance objectives. This position plays a key role in driving continuous improvement, reducing costs, and maintaining regulatory compliance through strategic engineering solutions. The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: • BRC program participant, responsible for their department's knowledge and compliance to the BRC standard. • Lead capital project planning and execution for initiatives exceeding $1M+ in value, including new equipment commissioning, infrastructure upgrades, and transcontinental product transfers. • Collaborate cross-functionally with Maintenance, R&D, QA, and Operations to support scale-up of new products/processes and facility optimization. • Design and improve manufacturing layouts, optimizing for space, throughput, and compliance with USDA, FDA, GMP, and food safety standards. • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving HVAC, hydraulics, PLCs, and industrial automation systems. • Apply Lean tools such as 5S, Poka-Yoke, Ishikawa, TPM, and Kanban to reduce waste, improve OEE, and drive continuous improvement. • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance systems and instrumentation calibration programs, ensuring metrological traceability and audit readiness. • Author and review SOPs, CAPAs, and validation documentation in compliance with GMP/pharma standards. • Analyze plant data to identify bottlenecks and implement innovative solutions that reduce downtime and increase yield. • Participate in long-range capital planning, vendor sourcing, and project ROI analysis. • Perform other duties as assigned. Must have the following: a Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical), 5+ years of engineering experience in food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or high-volume industrial settings. Demonstrated success in leading multi-million-dollar capital projects from conception to closeout. • Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Microsoft Project, Excel, and data analysis tools such as Power BI. • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. • In-depth experience with regulatory frameworks (USDA, BRC, FDA, GMP, ISO 17025). • Proven leadership in Lean Manufacturing implementation and process optimization. • Hands-on knowledge of equipment calibration, reliability engineering, and quality systems in regulated environments. • Experience working in both North American and Latin American industrial sectors. • Ability to adapt and lead in dynamic, multicultural teams. • Strong project documentation, compliance reporting, and technical writing skills.
