Full Job Description
Duties Description The New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF), with over $20 billion in assets under management, is seeking a highly analytical and articulate Private Markets Assistant Portfolio Manager to lead its private-markets research initiatives. This role serves as a key intellectual driver for the portfolio, providing research and insights that inform allocations across Private Equity, Private Credit, Real Estate, and Infrastructure. The position is responsible for transforming complex market data into clear, actionable investment perspectives that support portfolio construction and long-term strategic planning.

Responsibilities Include, but not limited to
• Lead research across Private Equity, Private Credit, Real Estate and Infrastructure to inform portfolio construction, strategy development and risk management
• Conduct in-depth analysis of market trends, economic conditions, regulatory developments, investment structures, legal terms and sector specific dynamics
• Produce high-quality research materials including white papers, quarterly reports, and thematic presentations for the CIO, Private Markets Investment Team, Investment Committee and Board of Directors
• Support Portfolio Managers in evaluating fund commitments and co-investments through rigorous research and data analysis
• Analyze the existing private markets portfolio to identify performance drivers, risks and performance relative to peers and benchmarks
• Manage and optimize the use of specialized data providers, analytical tools and market intelligence platforms
• Monitor peer investor activity and industry best practices to ensure NYSIF remains competitive and well-positioned
• Collaborate with internal teams (Fixed Income, Structured Products, Risk, Operations) to share insights and support cross-asset research initiatives
• Maintain and cultivate external relationships to gather market intelligence and represent NYSIF at industry conferences and events
• Support leadership on strategic projects, including asset-allocation studies, portfolio pacing, and long-term planning
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by CIO

Minimum Qualifications • At least seven years of experience conducting research in private markets, with preference for candidates who have also sourced or evaluated private-market investments
• Demonstrates integrity and adherence to high ethical standards in investment and research practices
• Exceptional writing and communication skills, with ability to translate complex analysis into clear, actionable insights
• Strong analytical capabilities, including proficiency in evaluating and processing large datasets to support research and portfolio analysis
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced investment environment
• Preference may be given to candidates who have obtained their MBA, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) credential

Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated leadership ability and experience contributing to or guiding cross-functional teams
• Advanced research, writing, analytical, and quantitative skills, with ability to interpret complex financial and market data
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong communication skills across written and verbal formats
• Familiarity with leading industry financial tools such as Bloomberg, Capital IQ, eFront, PitchBook, MSCI - Private Capital Private I, and others

Salary within the posted range will be commensurate with experience. Please note, NYSIF does not offer bonus programs as part of our compensation program.
