Position Overview - Prism Staff Project Engineer

PRISM is a newly formed base business function within the Ethicon Supply Chain organization with the goal of managing the E2E Cost of Goods sold for the handheld Endo-Mechanical and Energy business. A major focus of the PRISM program is to identify, prioritize and implement Cost Improvement Project (CIP) opportunities.

The Staff Project Engineer is a key team member for Prism, having overall responsibility to lead multiple complex engineering design change projects that reduce the cost of Direct Purchased Materials, using internal processes. The candidate will need to have strong project management skills, a product development background, be able to effectively build and drive project schedules, as well as understand product design and component manufacturing and assembly requirements. This position requires building close and collaborative partnerships within J&J and with outside/external suppliers. Inside partnerships include the J&J MedTech Source/Procurement organization regarding supplier selection and costing models, as well as Lifecycle Product Focus Teams regarding required support for device design change projects. The candidate will need to become knowledgeable on Ethicon specific Design Change Processes and will effectively partner with all internal cross functional teams to drive the design change project in concert with each business function. External partnerships include our EES manufacturing sites as well as J&J component suppliers around the world.

Critical to this role is the ability to successfully resolve difficult project challenges and communicate broadly and accurately across the entire EM&E supply chain organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leader of Ethicon design change projects applying the SPCR and CP0150 processes.
  • Partner closely with R&D design engineers and Life Cycle Engineering to understand component design intent, DFM, and DFA.
  • Build cases for new CIP project opportunities.
  • Create project charter documentation.
  • Create and manage design change project plans within the J&J documentation systems.
  • Create, own, and maintain digital project schedules.
  • Create, own, and maintain project expense & capital budgets.
  • Maintain digital project dashboards with critical project information.
  • Partner closely with Product Focus Teams regarding required support needed.
  • Partner closely with the J&J MedTech Source/Procurement organization regarding supplier selection and projected component costs.
  • Assist in engineering study documentation and execution.
  • Review / approve G10002 component validations.
  • Lead formal project Design Reviews and Change Review Board discussions.
  • Lead project/inventory Phase In / Phase Out strategy to ensure CIP of Direct Purchased Materials are realized.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Minimum B.S. (Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedcial or other related Engineering field equivalent) and 5 years of industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and completing the coordination of programs/projects and the delivery of products within an Engineering/ NPD/R&D function.
  • Exceptional project coordination skills while being able to multi-task and meet multiple project schedules on time.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing or Assembly (DFM/A) for plastic injection molding, metal machining, metal forming, metal injection molding.
  • Demonstrated understanding of product technical requirements and related production assembly requirements, and how both can affect final product quality.
  • Experience working closely with external or third-party suppliers.
  • Team oriented. Proven teamwork skills in a multi-functional engineering environment, ability to motivate and empower team members, set and manage expectations.
  • Proficiency with project budgeting and forecasting, MS PowerPoint, Project Management software, MS Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, analytical/problem solving, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong collaborator who excels at developing trusted partnerships to influence stakeholders, enhance teamwork, and drive execution excellence.
Preferred:
  • Demonstrated technical product knowledge of EES handheld EndoMechanical and/or Energy devices.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading projects through the EES CP0150 design change process.
  • PMP and/or FPX certification

This position is eligible to participate in the Company27s long-term incentive program.



Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
Vacation 60 hours per calendar year
Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado 68 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington 56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays 13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
Parental Leave 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
Bereavement Leave 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family
member per calendar year
Caregiver Leave 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days
Volunteer Leave 32 hours per calendar year
Military Spouse Time-Off 80 hours per calendar year
