Are you an expert in designing solutions to complex business and technology problems? Do you enjoy forming and socializing fact‑based architectural opinions grounded in hands‑on experience and sound judgment? If so, you could be a successful Principal Solution Architect at OMERS, joining the Solution Architecture community within Data & Technology (D&T), reporting into Architecture leadership.
This role is pivotal in shaping and delivering high‑quality, integrated solution designs for complex initiatives. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with business, delivery, and technology teams across OMERS and Oxford Properties to design solutions that are fit‑for‑purpose, aligned with portfolio direction, and consistent with enterprise architecture standards.
As a member of this team, your responsibilities will include
Solution Architecture Leadership
Own end‑to‑end solution architecture for complex, cross‑functional initiatives from ideation through realization
Translate business outcomes, constraints, and priorities into coherent solution designs
Ensure alignment with portfolio roadmaps and enterprise architecture direction
Application & Integration Design
Define solution structures, application interactions, and integration patterns
Ensure consistency with architectural standards, principles, and target‑state direction
Information & Data Design
Define and validate solution‑level data flows, ownership, quality, and lifecycle considerations
Ensure information design supports business outcomes, integration, and governance expectations
Technology & Non‑Functional Design
Shape solution use of platforms, infrastructure, and environments
Address non‑functional requirements such as performance, scalability, availability, resilience, and operability
Analysis, Evaluation, and Trade‑offs
Identify architectural risks, dependencies, and trade‑offs
Provide clear, defensible recommendations supported by analysis and experience
Contribute to option assessments, high‑level designs, and proofs of concept as required
Collaboration & Governance
Build consensus with delivery teams, SMEs, and stakeholders with diverse priorities
Clearly communicate complex architectural concepts in written, verbal, and presentation formats
Participate in, contribute to, and occasionally present at architecture governance forums
Mentorship & Practice Contribution
Mentor Solution Architects and contribute to the continuous improvement of the architecture practice
Support the evolution of architectural standards, patterns, and reusable assets
Capability Expectations
Solution‑Level Authority
Demonstrated authority in at least two of the following areas at the solution level:
Translating business capabilities and processes into solution designs
Designing application structures, integrations, and interaction patterns
Defining solution‑level data models, flows, and information ownership
Designing platform, infrastructure, and non‑functional solution characteristics
Cross‑Discipline Integration
Active working capability across three of the areas above at the solution level, enabling effective design, review, and challenge of cross‑cutting decisions
Breadth & Portfolio Awareness
Ability to engage meaningfully across all solution concerns (business, application, information, and technology)
Awareness of portfolio‑level standards, patterns, and roadmaps in at least two of those areas, enabling alignment beyond a single initiative
Experience Requirements
10+ years of experience designing and delivering complex technology solutions
Proven experience translating business requirements into end‑to‑end solution architectures
Experience working within large, complex technology ecosystems, including combinations of cloud, SaaS, and on‑premise platforms
Strong track record of influencing architectural decisions across delivery teams
Nice to Haves
University degree in engineering, computer science, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent experience
Experience in Pension, Asset Management, or Financial Services environments
Relevant certifications such as:
Cloud architecture certifications (Azure, AWS, GCP, OCI, etc.)
Architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF)
Security or data‑related certifications

The expected salary range for this position is $138,000 - $188,000 per year.
You may also be eligible to receive an annual Incentive Award pursuant to our Short-term Incentive plan and our Long-Term Incentive plan (if applicable), and to participate in our group benefits and retirement plans – details on these elements of compensation are included within OMERS & Oxford offer letters.
