Medtronic's Coronary and Renal Denervation (CRDN) business is looking for a Principal Software Test Engineer to be part of a high-performing team that is revolutionizing the design and development of energy based therapeutic medical devices to treat hypertension. In this role, you will leverage both your technical breadth and business acumen to lead the newly approved therapy medical device software test team and participate in the design and development of next generation medical devices.

This position is in Mounds View, MN. within the Coronary & Renal Denervation (OHS) Operating Unit. A Day in the Life:

We are seeking a Principal Software Test Engineer with strong expertise in software quality engineering and test automation. The ideal candidate will lead the design, development, and execution of automated testing solutions across UI, API, and system-level validations. This role requires hands-on experience with Python, Robot Framework, API testing, and Unix-based environments, along with a deep understanding of software development and test practices.

In general, the following responsibilities apply for the PrincipalSoftware Test Engineer role. This includes but is not limited to the following.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites using Python and Robot Framework
  • Build and execute automation for API, integration, regression, and functional testing
  • Perform validation in Unix/Linux environments and troubleshoot issues using command-line tools and scripting
  • Collaborate with developers, product owners, and cross-functional teams to define test strategy and quality standards
  • Analyze requirements, create test plans, and ensure full test coverage across features and releases
  • Identify, document, and track defects through resolution
  • Improve test efficiency by enhancing automation coverage and reducing manual testing effort
  • Review code and test scripts to ensure maintainability, scalability, and best practices
  • Contribute to continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines by integrating automated tests
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members on test automation and quality engineering practices


The successful candidate will have:
  • Demonstrated experience in software testing and test automation
  • Proficiency in Python for test automation and scripting
  • Hands-on experience with Robot Framework
  • Experience in API testing and validation
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Unix/Linux environments
  • Familiarity with test automation frameworks, tools, and best practices
  • Ability to analyze complex systems and debug issues effectively
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills


Qualifications-

  • Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, math or technical discipline and minimum of 7 years of work experience in engineering and/or quality OR advanced degree in engineering, science or technical field with 5 years of work experience in engineering and/or quality.

  • Agile SAFe training/experience
  • Cogent, concise written communication
  • Familiarity with Agile testing quadrants
  • Understanding and appreciation of SDLC process and tools (e.g. JIRA, Bitbucket, Gitlab, Jenkins.)
  • Experience in scoping and cost estimates for projects.
  • Engagement with and overseeing 3rd party software design partners as needed.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$122,400.00 - $183,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
