Position Summary

As a key contributor to the ST team, this individual will negotiate commercial terms and conditions of energy contracts, and contribute in other areas of PG&E's structured energy procurement efforts. This team may be responsible for leading various commercial activities to procure renewable energy, distributed resources, or storage capacity. This role will work closely with other teams including Energy Settlements and Contract Management (back office), Short Term Electric Transactions (front office), Energy Transactions & Solicitations, Portfolio Management, Law, Risk, and Regulatory Affairs. Success in this position will require the ability to motivate and influence the work of others and work across teams within the Energy Policy and Procurement organization, and throughout the company.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The work location is Oakland, CA.

PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position. The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The range to reasonably expect will be between the minimum and the midpoint of the range. The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Bay Area Minimum: $136,000.00

Bay Area Midpoint: $184,000.00

Bay Area Maximum: $232,000.00

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the origination and negotiation of PPAs for new renewable and energy storage projects, directly supporting PG&E's clean energy objectives as the second largest buyer of clean energy in California.
  • Originate and execute highly structured, long-term power purchase and sales agreements, including innovative product offerings through complex solicitations.
  • Develop, manage, and negotiate wholesale power sales and procurement activities across storage capacity, renewable energy, and GHG-Free products.
  • Evaluate complex power procurement contracts, synthesize key deal points, and communicate strategic insights to senior management.
  • Prepare strategy papers and briefing materials for Senior Leadership as required.
  • Understand project development life-cycle and how CAISO rules impact procurement and project economics.
  • Builds and manages relationships with new and existing entities in the renewables and storage market.
  • Leads identification, development, implementation, and resolution of issues associated with complex, cross-functional strategy and policy matters.


Qualifications

Minimum:
  • Bachelor's Degree with coursework in a business- related field, mathematics, engineering, or equivalent field of study; or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 8 years


Desired:
  • Master's degree
  • Minimum of four years' experience in wholesale supply, development, or strategy/policy within the energy industry
  • Strong understanding of procurement requirements for the Company's wholesale energy portfolio and their impact on competitive positioning, as well as relevant rules and regulations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of energy contract provisions, typical counterparty considerations, and the implications of specific contractual language
  • Proven leadership abilities with a track record of developing new procurement products and contract documents
  • Expertise in presenting complex data and findings to varied audiences; leading Company development initiatives; and representing Structured Transactions in discussions related to electric procurement issues
  • Direct experience with CAISO products, market operations, and settlement processes
  • Solid grasp of organizational structures, decision-making frameworks, and governance procedures related to commercial procurement
  • Ability to influence senior decision-makers
  • Skilled in managing major cross-functional projects and organizational initiatives
  • Strong analytical capabilities for addressing complex issues and recommending solutions even when operating with limited information and time constraints
  • Commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment that encourages teamwork, information and experience sharing, constructive communication, and both professional and personal development
  • Demonstrated focus on quality, operational efficiency, and continuous process improvement
