Position Specific Description

Regulatory Risk and Strategy Office

To support NextEra Energy's Regulatory Risk and Strategy Office ("RRS") through the identification, analysis, and enablement of ISO/RTO and state/provincial regulatory requirements and market rules. This role monitors new and emerging regulatory developments, supports the evaluation of their applicability to company operations, and assists in coordinating internal alignment on regulatory interpretations to ensure regulatory obligations are clearly understood across Business Units

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a business, engineering, economics, or legal-related field
  • 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, risk management, legal/regulatory analysis, or related functions
  • Demonstrated experience in regulatory compliance, business process design, or legal/regulatory advisory roles within a regulated industry
  • Experience analyzing regulatory requirements and translating them into operational guidance
  • Knowledge of energy markets, transmission, grid-regulation, and state-specific utility frameworks


Preffered Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • 2+ years of experience with ISO/RTO and/or state regulatory matters (e.g., CAISO, ERCOT)
  • Working knowledge of governance, risk, and compliance ("GRC") applications


Primary (Essential) Job Functions

  • Monitor and share new and emerging ISO/RTO and state regulatory requirements and market rules affecting company operations.
  • Conduct enterprise-level scanning to identify emerging policy and regulatory developments and position the organization to proactively engage on matters impacting the business.
  • Support regulatory impact assessments to determine applicability and potential operational or compliance implications.
  • Maintain inventories of regulatory requirements, operating rules, and compliance obligations in an enterprise-wide compliance management solution (CMS/GRC application).
  • Identify opportunities and develop proposals to enhance regulatory processes and improve implementation efficiency.
  • Support the Manager, coordinate internal alignment across stakeholders, including Regulatory & Political Affairs, Engineering & Construction, Power Generation Division, and Business Management, on regulatory interpretations and company positions. Support regulatory strategy and advocacy efforts by evaluating the potential operational impacts of proposed regulatory changes.
  • Provide support for ongoing Regulatory Compliance projects, initiatives, and compliance-related efforts to ensure regulatory initiatives and obligations are executed accurately and on schedule.

Responsible for evaluating new and emerging regulatory requirements and assessing their applicability and potential impact on company operations. This includes determining when regulatory developments warrant further analysis, internal coordination, or escalation to leadership. The role must balance regulatory interpretation with operational considerations when advising Business Units and Leadership.

Communications & Organizational Requirements

Responsible for maintaining regular communication with Leadership and relevant stakeholders regarding emerging regulatory developments and potential impacts. The role requires coordination with business units and other internal stakeholders to ensure consistent understanding of regulatory requirements and alignment on compliance expectations. The position must be able to synthesize complex regulatory information into clear and actionable internal communications.

Job Overview

Employees in this role serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for ongoing day-to-day duties related to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), International Business Parties (IBPs), the compliance hotline, and other compliance and ethics activities.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Refines processes and ensures that the content of policies and procedures are up-to-date
  • Ensures that the content of any forms that are part of policy or procedure are up-to-date
  • Works with business units that plan on engaging an International Business Party to ensure that the processes are followed and due diligence is conducted
  • Reviews and analyzes hotline reporting data to identify opportunities for training, communication of policies and procedures
  • Conducts benchmarking research on best practices, other companies' Code of Business Conduct and Ethics
  • Works with the appropriate departments to gain agreement, make changes, and revise the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics or Senior Officer Code as necessary
  • Updates the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Survey as necessary
  • Performs complex analysis, develops alternative recommendations and formulates implementation strategies
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
