Job Overview

Rendering engineering expertise and assisting in the development and implementation of strategies to effectively support legal experts and internal business partners in protecting the corporate interests and brand image of MBAG, Mercedes-Benz, Sprinter, smart, MBUSA and other MBAG entities

Responsibilities
• Provide hands-on forensic engineer expertise related to the investigation of potential product liability automotive related cases.
• Effectively gather and analyze critical information and scientific facts by conducting incident investigations and vehicle inspections in accordance with established protocol, to produce an engineering conclusion that assists the manager, legal counsel and market teams in making sound business decisions and facilitates favorable outcomes in pre-litigation and litigation matters.
• Support the preparation of documentation for safety recall campaigns and NHTSA inquiries and investigations.
• Determine relevancy of, and accurately code, TREAD-relevant field information utilizing the appropriate database.
• Collaborate with key business partners (MBUSA legal and engineering departments, Coordinating Counsel) to establish sound trial strategies, responses to discovery/document production requests and witness preparation.
• Keep the manager abreast of relevant engineering topics. Contribute to customer satisfaction by investigating concerns regarding certain engineering topics and alleged product defects, providing guidance to legal counsel, market teams, CAC, and dealers in product/performance topics, and suggesting resolutions based on sound engineering and business practices.
• Ensure that Market Teams, CAC, and FTS play a dedicated role in corporate defense, by developing / delivering accident / fire investigation seminars, "on-the-job" training and report review / feedback to enhance their performance.
• Communicate consistent company position on engineering topics by appearing as corporate representative and /or expert witness in arbitrations, depositions, and trials, responding to discovery and document production requests, assisting with the development of trial strategies and the preparation of other expert witnesses.
• Reduce potential involvement of senior management, engineering, and field staff, in litigation activities by serving as corporate representative or Person Most Knowledgeable, whenever possible.
• Promote MBUSA's reputation for cooperation and good corporate citizenship by assisting / supporting the FBI, local law enforcement agencies, NHTSA, etc. when appropriate

Qualifikationen Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree (accredited school) with emphasis in engineering
• Must have 10 years minimum of experience in the following:

o Automotive-Retail --> Proficient Knowledge of aftersales processes and procedures, with emphasis in; quality control, aftersales analysis techniques, technical diagnosis
o Processing --> General Knowledge of retail automotive processes and warranty administration
o Risk Management --> General Knowledge of fundamental business practices, risk mitigation, and/or legal liability
• Analysis / interpretation of vehicle engineering issues during on-site investigations or in the review of in-house and outside expert reports and other documents
• Ability too effectively and persuasively translate/communicate complex engineering information and automotive theory to a diverse audience (legal and lay persons);
• Highly developed inductive/deductive reasoning and forensic skills; Working knowledge of U.S. legal system and product liability
• Working knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations 49 relating to Motor Vehicle Safety and the TREAD Act
• Working knowledge of interpretation and application of Event Data Recorder data related to collision investigation
• Working knowledge of NFPA 921 and 1033 as applicable to fire origin and cause investigations

Additional Information
• Extensive travel required, with potential for 40% travel
• Travel outside of normal business hours required on a regular basis
• Occasional travel on weekends may be required
• Company vehicle provided
• Potential for remote work location. Geographical location must be pre-approved by management
