Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking to add a Principal or Sr. Principal Electronics Engineer - RADAR to join our team in Rancho Bernardo, Palmdale, or El Segundo CA. The candidate should be a self-starter with familiarity working in an Integrated Product Team construct.

The ideal candidate will have background and experiences in designing life cycle, functional integration of RADARs, leading collaborative design and development, and test.

Responsibilities will also include:
  • Lead or support system integration activities; Coordinate with program teams to integrate radar system elements, components and end to end functionality, addressing integration risks and enabling early and continuous system integration.
  • Develop and execute verification and validation plans; Participate in the creation and execution of approaches for verifying and validating radar system integration requirements, ensuring the system meets mission objectives and customer needs.
  • Contribute to technical requirements and supplier management; Help develop technical requirements for the radar system and ensure suppliers meet these requirements, including monitoring and evaluating supplier technical performance.
  • Support design maturation and risk management; Manage capabilities and margins throughout the design process, provide technical input on risks, issues, and opportunities, and recommend mitigation strategies to maintain system performance and integrity.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation; Prepare clear technical documentation such as design specifications, test plans, and reports to support the development lifecycle and program objectives
  • Troubleshooting support for field failures requiring understanding of hardware and software within and external to the subsystem
  • Data analysis and anomaly investigations including coordination with supplier team for change implementation.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and test software and/or hardware components for development risk reduction and anomaly investigations.


The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is NO remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Basic Qualifications
  • Principal Electronics Engineer: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related engineering experience.
  • Sr. Principal Electronics Engineer: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a relevant STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a relevant STEM discipline and 4 years of related engineering experience
  • Professional experience integrating Sensors or Comms payload assets including physical, environmental and logical interface definition
  • A U.S. Citizen with Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance OR active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility (with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Access Program (SAP) access via a Program Access Request (PAR). This SAP/PAR must be obtained prior to commencement of employment and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs


Note: SAP/PAR will be upgraded once selected candidate is in role. Therefore, candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain upgraded SAP/PAR.)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Professional Experience in any of the following:
  • RADAR product data analysis (SAR, MTI etc)
  • SW requirements definition and verification
  • Supplier Management of Hardware/Embedded Software system
  • Operations and Sustainment of fielded systems
  • Proposal development and review
  • Customer Presentations
  • Design Trade Studies
  • Root Cause and Corrective Action Investigations
  • Test and evaluation of SW design solutions and tools
  • Experience with data analysis, simulation, and modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB toolboxes,)
  • Experience with configuration management, issue tracking/trending, and basic software engineering practices.
  • Proficiency in one or more technical languages: MATLAB/Simulink commonly required; Python increasingly expected; C/C++ for embedded/real time implementations.
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems, develop solutions, and make decisions that impact the organization's credibility, operations and services.
  • Documented ability to interpret numerical data for reporting purposes and prepare and analyze data and figures.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate in a team environment across with multiple engineering disciplines.


Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
