Full Job Description
The Principal Mechanical Engineer - Laundry User Interfaces will lead the mechanical design and development of user-interface systems for next-generation laundry appliances. The role spans new product introductions, current-production support, and advanced development of new interface technologies and features. Working closely with Laundry product teams, Industrial Design, and electrical and software engineers, this engineer will translate consumer, brand, reliability, cost, and manufacturing requirements into robust, intuitive, production-ready solutions. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, develop reusable platform solutions, and mentor other engineers. Position Principal Mechanical Engineer - Laundry User Interfaces Location USA, Louisville, KY How You'll Create Possibilities Essential Responsibilities: - Lead the mechanical design and development of user-interface systems for new product introductions. - Support current product user interface designs and investigate potential improvements. - Advanced development of user interface components for use within Clothes Care Products. - Coordinate with the product line design teams to develop common/modular solutions. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical and software engineers in the Lean development process. - Develop and maintain comprehensive requirement specifications for user interfaces. - Work with Industrial Design and product teams to define and implement brand strategies. - Generate Intellectual Property to expand the GEA portfolio, and navigate the relevant patent landscapes. - Incorporate Six Sigma and reliability engineering methodology to prove and implement new designs. - Complete reliability qualifications for new components and systems. - Coordinate design fabrication and qualification with the product line. - Develop, mentor, and teach engineers, including co-ops and EEDPs. - Up to 10% of travel is required. What You'll Bring to Our Team Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field - A minimum of 7 years' mechanical design experience for high-volume manufactured products - Strong mechanical design experience with good understanding of GD&T and dimensional analysis in 3D systems - Strong project planning and project leadership skills and experience - Excellent analytical skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment - Demonstrated initiative, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills - 3D Modeling Experience. - Demonstrated experience designing plastic appearance or decorative parts for production Preferred Qualifications: - Experience designing physical user-interface assemblies, such as control panels, knobs, buttons, displays, touch interfaces, light pipes, overlays, or decorative components - Proficiency with PTC Creo - Experience with injection-molded plastics, tooling, cosmetic specifications, and supplier or manufacturing collaboration - Experience with consumer appliances or another high-volume consumer-product industry - Experience developing platform architecture or common, modular component solutions
