Overview:The Principal Health Data Scientist will lead and serve as subject matter expert in data science, programming, and analytical modeling in support of health economics and real-world evidence (HEOR/RWE) research within Inovalon's Insights team. This position executes research studies from start to finish, reviewing protocols for methodological appropriateness, building and validating cohorts, performing analysis, and generating insights from administrative claims and EHR data. This is an independent contributor role requiring deep domain expertise and the ability to manage projects with minimal supervision in a fast-paced research environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Serve as lead for programming, analytics, and statistics when working collaboratively with teams of health services researchers and business analysts to draw insight and intelligence from large administrative claims datasets, electronic medical records and various healthcare registry datasets.
- Identify and develop solutions that can be implemented to key strategic business problems using high-level modeling and statistical analyses techniques.
- Utilize SQL to perform advanced-level data extraction, transformation and data management; fully document and manage library of source code and algorithms for future use.
- Identify, develop and test hypotheses in support of research and product offerings, and communicate findings in a clear, precise, and actionable manner to our clients.
- Respond to and lead highly complex operational data requests and create ad-hoc queries to support research projects.
- Provide quality control, quality assurance and review for projects where not the lead including solution orientated approaches and mentoring for cross functional training across the functional project teams.
- Serve as lead when working closely with Inovalon's Enterprise Data Management, Data Integration, MORE2 Registry®, and iPORT+™ teams to identify, understand, and resolve data issues and improve the efficiency, productivity and scalability of Avalere and Inovalon Product and production data processes.
- Troubleshoot complex production-related issues and coordinate successful resolution.
- Assist with the evaluation of data analytic vendors and tools.
- Maintain compliance with Inovalon's policies, procedures and mission statement.
- Adhere to all confidentiality and HIPAA requirements as outlined within Inovalon's Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the undertaking of the position.

Job Requirements: - 7 + years of professional experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industries working with administrative claims data and big data.
- Excellent SQL programming skills including experience with Snowflake cloud data platform, in addition to working knowledge and experience using statistical analysis tools such as SAS, R, , and/or MatLab.
- Demonstrated high level problem solving, analytical reasoning and decision-making skills.
- Strong understanding and experience in researching and resolving data issues with a logical, instinctive, and problem-solving mentality working with large, complex and incomplete sources.
- Business analytical skills (process flows, procedures, spreadsheets, modeling, etc.) and good understanding of design and architecture principles.
- Exhibit excellent project management skills, with an ability to work independently on multiple projects with competing priorities and a strong commitment to meeting goals and deadlines.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to understand and interpret results based on advanced statistical techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in IT and business environments; ability and willingness to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.
- Advanced knowledge of health care, health policy, pharmaceutical, medical device, and related issues;
- Superior customer service in the form of first-rate work product and project management.
- Strong ability to manage challenging client situations.

Education:
- Master's degree in statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, machine learning, econometrics, engineering, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Frequently or constantly to lift, carry push, pull or otherwise move objects and repetitive motions.
- Subject to inside environmental conditions.
- Travel for this position will include less than 5% locally usually for training purposes.

Base Compensation Range
$150,000-$190,000 USD
