Full Job Description
Purpose:

To serve as the chief administrator of a school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.

Education, Training Required:
  • Strong instructional background,
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction for assigned grade level band,
  • Holds or eligible to hold a North Carolina Principal Certificate,
  • Successful experience as a classroom teacher,
  • Knowledge of developmental patterns of school-age children,
  • Ability to communicate effectively with adults and students from a broad range of backgrounds.


Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership
  • Lead and support the development and implementation of a rigorous, standards-based curriculum,
  • Use student data to guide instruction decisions and promote academic achievement,
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, equity, and inclusion,
  • Evaluate and provide feedback to teachers and support staff to improve instructional practices.


School Operations & Management
  • Oversee day-to-day school operations including scheduling, budgeting, and facilities management,
  • Ensure a safe, orderly, and positive school environment,
  • Manage school resources efficiently and in accordance with district guidelines,
  • Implement emergency and safety protocols.


Staff Supervision & Development
  • Hire, mentor, supervise, and evaluate teachers and school personnel,
  • Foster professional development opportunities and build staff capacity,
  • Promote collaboration, innovation, and shared leadership among staff.


Student Support & Discipline
  • Promote high expectations for student behavior and academic performance,
  • Enforce school discipline policies fairly and consistently,
  • Support inclusive practices that meet the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities and English language learners.


Family & Community Engagement
  • Build Strong relationships with parents, caregivers, and community partners,
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders through newsletters, meetings, and events,
  • Promote family involvement in school programs and student learning.


Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including reporting requirements,
  • Oversee standardized testing and data reporting,
  • Implement district initiatives and support district goals.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills,
  • Experience working in diverse or Title 1 school settings,
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and MTSS/RTI frameworks.
