Northrop Grumman Mission Systemsis looking for you to join our team as a Principal Engineer Quality based in Sunnyvale, CA.

What you'll get to do:

The Principle Quality Engineer supports a Program or Programs in a Program Quality Engineer role, with responsibility for the overall program quality over the lifecycle of the program.

The Program Quality Engineer's primary responsibilities across this lifecycle include:
  • Developing and Supporting Program proposal activities.
  • Developing and implementing the Program Quality Plan.
  • Planning/establishing the baseline for the Program quality scope,
  • Support execution of the Program's procurement, manufacturing, and test plans.
  • Monitoring and control of both supplier and manufacturing performance,
  • Driving and supporting Continuous Improvement (CI) activities on the Program.
  • Establishing good working relationships with customer and government representatives to facilitate demonstration of conformance to requirements of the finished work products.


Additionally, the Principle Quality Engineer:
  • Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.
  • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
  • Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
  • Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
  • Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.


The ideal candidate must be able to communicate written and verbally in a team environment, ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Projects, and Excel), and the ability to successfully engage with manufacturing and quality control personnel on the shop floor to provide solutions, coach, and mentor others in the use of Quality principles and practices.

Basic Qualifications for the Principal Engineer Quality:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related STEM field with 5 or more years of experience in a quality assurance, mission assurance, or related engineering role; Master's with 3 or more years of experience.
  • Experience working in a mechanical and/or manufacturing environment.
  • QMS (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.) experience.
  • Experience with mechanical inspection techniques and tools.
  • US Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a Program Quality role in multiple phases of a program lifecycle.
  • Root cause analysis and corrective action experience.
  • Experience leading Quality activities in an ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Management System Environment.
  • Experience with non-destructive testing techniques and tools in a fabrication, machining, and assembly environment.
  • Experience performing Earned Value Management responsibilities as a Control/Cost Account Manager.
  • Experience developing, collecting, and analyzing metrics.
  • Experience working with minimal oversight and lead cross-functional teams towards solutions in a multi-discipline team environment.
  • Experience solving problems in a manufacturing environment implementing solutions to complicated technical issues.
  • Green Belt Certification.
  • Experience leading/facilitating Root Cause Corrective Action activities
  • Experience conducting or managing internal audits
  • Experience working on government contracts and on Supplier Quality efforts

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
