Position Summary

The Principal Electrical Engineer provides enterprise-level technical leadership and ownership for site electrical infrastructure, utility management, manufacturing electrical systems, automation integration, power reliability programs, capital project execution, change management activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role serves as the primary engineering interface with Duke Energy and utility service vendors while providing strategic oversight for both GMP and non-GMP operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as technical owner for site electrical infrastructure, distribution networks, switchgear, substations, transformers, emergency power systems, and critical facility assets.
  • Lead electrical reliability, lifecycle management, asset replacement, and infrastructure modernization strategies.
  • Manage relationships with Duke Energy and utility service providers regarding service connections, infrastructure upgrades, capacity planning, outage reporting, and restoration support.
  • Provide timely communication and status reporting to Seqirus stakeholders regarding outages, restoration efforts, infrastructure constraints, and utility-driven changes.
  • Lead site power outage planning, response, business continuity support, and restoration protocols.
  • Provide engineering leadership for electrical CAPEX projects from concept through commissioning and startup.
  • Support electrical design reviews, contractor oversight, vendor management, FAT, SAT, commissioning, qualification, and turnover activities.
  • Lead root cause investigations associated with electrical failures, utility disruptions, and automation-related events.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, power quality, energy efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Act as technical authority for electrical change controls, risk assessments, deviations, CAPAs, and engineering standards.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Automation, Facilities, Quality, Validation, EHS, and Project Engineering teams.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 15+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, manufacturing, industrial, utility, or regulated environments.
  • Extensive experience supporting both GMP and non-GMP operations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in automation systems, controls integration, and manufacturing support systems.
  • Significant experience in continuous improvement, reliability engineering, and infrastructure optimization.
  • Well-tenured experience leading complex change management programs within regulated environments.
  • Proven experience managing utility service vendors, engineering firms, electrical contractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Experience supporting large-scale CAPEX projects and facility infrastructure upgrades.

Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems, including utility interconnections, substations, transformers, switchgear, emergency power systems, and facility power distribution networks.
  • Expertise in power quality, reliability, emergency power, and infrastructure planning.
  • Working knowledge of automation, PLC, and control systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, regulatory requirements, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, reliability-centered maintenance, and asset management programs.
